Juliette is nicer with or without make-up???

Well, that make up was very nice, don't know why Reno didn'd like it. And you?

I liked her so much more the natural way because she has a beautiful face. At the beginning of the movie one couldn't even recognize a face under all this make-up. It was like a mask, very unnatural. I think, it looked cheesy and she doesn't need that. But it was adequate for her role so it's okay for the film.

She is just BEAUTIFUL!

She is very pretty either way. The writers apparently wanted Felix (Jean Reno) to prefer a natural woman.

I'm going to "Yamo" burn this place to the ground.

WITHOUT!!!

Nearly anyone looks better without.

Someone in an article in the NY Times Style section several months ago spelled out French women's low opinion of overly made-up Americans. I wish several women I work with had read it. My own take has always been, if I know makeup's there then its way way way too much.

But I'm sure cinematographer, lighting staff, and perhaps her makeup assistant put no little work into her "natural" glow in this film.

Dramatically, face changes shorthand weaknesses in the very short script.

Um...having a semi-drag queen sensibility, I appreciated the technique that went into the original makeup, and it was pretty, just an inch or so too heavy for anything but a stage show. Rose says at one point in the film that the makeup is like clothing to her; without it she feels naked--it's just one more piece of armor she puts on to protect herself, like the heavily lacquered hair. There are parallel shots in the airport of her touching up her makeup and looking into the mirror; the makeup is flawless but cannot hide the sadness in her eyes. I mean, with so much made of her makeup early on, you knew it was going to come off eventually, and while it was predictable, the effect was still stunning.

I kept wondering if she was really and truly barefaced...it can take an amazing amount of makeup to look "natural." She's a beautiful woman regardless, and a gifted actress as well.

Btw, she *did* look like Victoria Abril, didn't she? Good catch on that.

either way she is lovely

A natural beauty, stunning, gorgeous, a most attractive woman... without the makeup... with the make-up... it made her look trashy and distracting from her inner character.
Jean Reno's character "Felix" was tactless to mention the use of 'Ajax' (used in the English sub-titles) to remove the makeup, however I had been thinking the same thing just before he said it and I had been wondering what her natural beauty would be like.

She looked much better without the makeup.
