Has anyone read the book?

I was initially excited when I saw they made a movie out of this phenomenal book, but after getting a look at these comments and reviews, I don't think I'll be going out of my way to see it. :)

However, if you want a good, suspenseful, entertaining read, check out the book. Any of Shreve's books, actually!

I am currently reading it, and loving it. The first of Shreve's books I've read, but it won't be the last. The story is tailor-made for a film adaptation, but like you, I don't think I'll be bothering looking for this at my local video store.

Don't do it. I have not read the book but everyone seems to love it. Do not spoil your memories by watching the crime committed by the film crew.

haha, agree with the above poster^^. I've read The Pilot's Wife then watched the movie and the book is so much better (surprise). The Weight of Water by Shreve has also been made into a film; its a pretty good adaptation--not the best. Still, I recommend you read Shreve's novels instead.

I read the book. My first Anita Shreve and I've been working my way through the rest since. I liked the film as well - it's been a while since I read the book but it caught the feel as I remember it - also, very good cast.
