I'm sorry, but that 'wobbly' ghost was THE scariest thing I've ever seen

I'm serious. That has to be one of the greatest moments in the history of horror films. I have never been that scared during a movie in my entire life. I still think Rosemary's Baby is the overall scariest horror film ever made, but not one scene in that film is as scary as the wobbling ghost in Pulse.

Lol, I know this was pretty exaggerated and whimpish, but... geez.

Oh yeah, japanese ghosts
scare
the *beep* out of me,
but in this movie in particular. This one was the scariest, but a close second would be the shifty "after many days or weeks it finally happens" one, where you're staring at the video waiting for something to happen and just when you think you're starting to see something, ZOOM to the other side of the screen. It looked real! Like those ones you see on Ghost Hunters or something... Flippin' terrifying, son.

from out that shadow
that lies floating on the floor
shall be lifted

I completely understand. Not sure why, but the way the figure just suddenly dodges to the left, like it's sprained its ankle or something, then rights itself, CREEPED ME OUT.
I think, therefore I am a grapefruit.

Yeah, I felt exactly the same way. Still can't explain it, but yeah, quite possibly the scariest scene I've seen in a movie.

reply

Good Lord! What are you girls, like . . . 9 years old or something!?

Please, do yourself a favor . . . if wobbly walking scares you, don't watch the Monty Python Skit about the Ministry of Silly Walks. SERIOUSL, John Cleese scared me so bad in that one I pooped my diaper!

reply

Shut the *beep* up bitchass.

...when I was 9 I wasn't old enough to watch a movie with wobbly ghosts. so you suck. Do you think that gore is the only thing that is scary, or something? Don't watch Asian horror flicks then. Go watch Hostel 2 or something...

I thought the wobbly ghost was quite scary, and the remake was not scary. But this movie may have been scary, but the dialog and basic storyline was weak. The plot was creepy, and the ghosts were creepy, but I just wanted more from this film.

PS- I am nowhere near 9 years old. So don't assume I am now all of a sudden going through puberty.

And my finance thought it was creepy too, and he is anything but a 9 year old girl.

I hate how IMDb signatures look like part of the post.

I would have appreciated it if the ghost "tripped" and almost fell backwards in slow-mo with an expression on her face like, "WHOOPS, oh dip...", gained her footing again, and then laughed at her own clumsiness (in slo-mo, of course), and then continued walking again.
Then I wouldn't have gotten so freaked by her.

agreed, that part really freaked me the hell out

and when it come up close, so you can see his eyes, damn that was chilling

reply

Totally,
Me and my mates couldn't move during that scene, it was incredibly freaky. And with that ghostly music added into it, i would say thats probably the most scariest scene i have ever seen in a horror movie. And im not easily scared! I think that scene proves that you dont need outrageous special effects or blasting music to scare you. I hope more movies can be just as scary as that.

reply

I definately agree. I'm recovering from swine flu so I'm stuck in on my own.

Halloween I thought...I'll get a couple of films (the other was Kansen)light a few candles and have a bit of a scary night.

Bit of a mistake! Still feeling a bit shaky now (an hour later!) which explains why I'm posting comments on here instead of getting some sleep!

reply

Hell yeah, same here. I noticed it the second time I saw the DVD and believe me, it freaked! I think the lady actor who did that was some kind of dancer. You need a kind of technique for that kind of controlled falling.

reply

Let's not forget that teenage ghost who was at the convenience store, the one Michi spots just staring at her. That was creepy too.

reply

That wobbly ghost totally knocked my socks off. I was SO scared when it came on, then it almost fell over/quickly moved off to the side, like it was lurching forward...That scared the hell out of me. I was watching it in the middle of the day, and I'm an adult! Totally well done, if it can be that scary!

What's scary about that scene is how inevitable Yabe's demise is and there is no escape from the ghosts once you enter that red tape room.

Honestly, I was frozen watching the basement scene. I did NOT want to be that guy behind the couch.

This whole movie and the idea of eternal loneliness creeped me out. I couldn't sleep. What was funny was, I was subliminally frightened. I was thinking about other things trying to go to sleep and when I finally started to go to sleep, all I could think about was this movie. I didn't think about the movie until I was going to sleep. That's how effective it was.

That's the best way for a horror movie to be!
Yeah, I think the driving existential philosophy is the scariest part of the film.
