Awful Script

Unlike some people on her I didn't have a problem with the performances and would have really liked to have seen more of Kris Marshall (the first 'self-loving' victim).
The cinematography was also really good as was the set.

BUT oh my god what a script. There's no sense of cause and effect, instead just a bunch of stuff happens, as we work out which order people will die in. It's all horribly predictable and...

***SPOILER ALERT***

The "twist" at the end that they're all already dead and are in purgatory was so flippin' obvious it was painful. And as for the German guy being the grim reaper and judging each of them, well, he's pretty bloody unreasonable.

"Yes Charlie, you are the only one who tried to save me, and that is why you're free" - so what, everyone else in the film was bad and deserved to go to hell, did they? Please explain Mr Reaper how the guy who has been shot through the spin and is having his legs eaten by rats is supposed to prove himself and save you?

Nah, this is just a really bad script...

Completely agree. Wasted two hours of my life watching this!

Yes YOU wasted two hours of your life. Maybe YOU should try not doing that anymore.

Firstly, i want to say that this "horror" movie was the best i've seen in a long time. Whith all the *beep* being thrown at us, p.e. romero's unwillingly funny splatter movies, those "modernized" vampire flicks, alien vs. predator part 25, krueger vs. jason etc., i was happy to see a movie that doesn't concentrate on all the stupid cliches out there.

Well, most of the people posting here are either horror or war movie fans.
They each flame at the movie because it doesn't go in either direction.
So, what else should this movie genre be called? Wartime thriller? Mystery war movie?

And for the purgatory part: You might see it that way, I don't!

The end was pretty open: Shakespeare could either die like the rest, because he killed the doc (his killings this far were mercy killings), or he could go free for showing compassion to the german, and his comrades.
That's pretty much the turning point of the movie and pretty well made. If you don't get it, don't sit in front of your tv biting your nails hoping the movie will end soon so you can flame at it. Get a life!

Cheers!

P.S.: Yes, it was what "The Trench" should have looked like...

I think the purgatory thing might be correct. At the end when the bodies get dragged in the ground it's like he's going to hell (underground), he sees his sqaud all talking together and you don't hear/see shakespear talking .. he just looks at him like he is an empty shell waiting for his 'soul'. When he get's out and Friedrich tells him he's free he goes up the ladder and through a white fog .. almost like a white light wich could symbolize heaven.

Just my take on it .. I thought it was a descent movie.. obvious at some points but still worth a watch.

Kinda think it's funny that when the first guy dies and smeagol dies they get barbed wire through there entire bodies .. in Silent Hill the movie same sort of thing happens to Christabella and now Micheal J Basset who made Deathwatch gets to make Silent Hill 2 (Revelation 3D) haha funny how that works.. hope he doesn't fudge it up cause I love me some Silent Hill.

I agree for the most part. Their are things I definitely liked about the film and things I did not like. The production value and cinematography was amazing, but the script and sound mix were very mediocre. I liked the concept but the execution was poor. The film felt like a clutter of random events versus having a plot structure. I thought the twist was interesting, but everything that led up to it was weak. I am almost certain most of the above-the-line crew were probably new to filmmaking, because the movie shows a lot of potential but the flaws felt like a lot of rookie mistakes a more experienced filmmaker could have tightened up.

I agree. The screenplay just seemed very amateur and bland.

The screenplay was in fact good, the plot is also nice but the gave away the twist too much and yeah the

Thing is in fact dumb, but I'm glad I've seen this movie, it was pretty refreshing.
