I think so, yet imdb user ratings say its worse.

Worst movie I've ever seen. Robert Rodriguez managed to make Jonny Depp deliver the lowest performance of his career.

I think this is one of the very few trilogies that I believe progresses in quality from film to film. Not like technical or visual quality, but overall enjoyment and rating quality. El Mariachi is my least favorite of the trilogy while Once Upon a Time in Mexico is my highest rated. I think it's easily the best of the trilogy. El Mariachi is an impressive film, most definitely, but as far as terribly low budget, early 90s films go, this is no Clerks...if I had seen El Mariachi in theaters back in 1992 I would never have thought that Robert Rodriguez would go on to have a rather accomplished filmmaking career. Desperado is fun, a lot of fun, but it still feels empty. Rodriguez's eye for action is prevalent in Desperado, but the story is lacking...lacking in the fact that it doesn't really exist. Once Upon a Time in Mexico may seem convoluted in its plot, even on repeated viewings there always seems to be something else going on that I never realized before, but it's by far the coolest, slickest, and best made of the three. It's awesome in every way and the characters' stories finally come to a close. Plus, the addition of Johnny Depp as Sands elevates the film monumentally. In my opinion, Sands is one of Johnny Depp's top five film performances ever. He is beyond perfect in this movie and steals the show at every turn.

Therefore, not only is Once Upon a Time in Mexico better than Desperado, but it's better than El Mariachi as well. It's the best installment of Rodriguez's Mexico trilogy. Hands down.

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise

I love them both, but very differently.

Nnh, see this is why - this is why you never - NEVER! trust a stranger that you meet in the middle of the woods, in the middle of the night, just pushing around a dead body in a wheelbarrow.

I love Desperado, but to me this is a bit better. I never got into El Mariachi though. It's too low budget for me.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings.
