Question about length. - The Cure for Insomnia (1987) Discussion

I believe it would be Gone With the Wind. Isn't it's running time around five or six hours?

Ah, no. Its running time is three hours and fifty three minutes. No where near five or six hours.

Well, I guess even an hour and a half long movie can seem like six hours if your not interested in it.

I'm not sure if this is the longest film with a plot ever made, but Kenneth Branaugh's "Hamlet" is longer than GwtW, coming in at 4 hours and 2 minutes. And if you haven't seen it, you should, it is phenomenal. Intermission is recommended, though. ;-)

The longest film was "Greed" which was made in 1927 but in it's remastered 1999 version, it was unfortunately moved back to aroung 3 and a half hours. It's original time was 6 and a half hours.

War and Peace (1968) the DVD is 403 minutes. 6 hours and 43 minutes.

Thats Un-true Dune is 292 minutes in its finland release and even its USA release beats that runtime at 266 mins. And Children of Dune is also 266 mins.

'Huo shao hong lian si' - I would disqualify because it was never shown in its enirety, but rather in several separate featurettes...

'Fanny and Alexander' was re-cut to 5 hours for television only, and is included on the new Criterion DVD collection of the movie, which i believe is 5 discs...

Buracz Bosnitz showed 908 hours of blank film in 1968 as an experiment...how terribly exciting.

Also, 'Lawence of Arabia' is longer then 'Gone with the Wind'.

that is actually the only two bergman movies thats over 2 hours...

but one thats among the longest must be "Ebolusyon ng isang pamilyang pilipino" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424062/), that was shown on a film festival in my town in a 647 minutes lon version.

The longest film shown on television is the epic War and Peace. It was shown on Russian Television continousally at a running time of just over 8 hours long.

i think the longest known movie with a plot is the ten commandmants directed my cecil b demile and it has a running time of 236 mins and cleopatra with elizabeth taylor is 246 mins

Ebolusyon ng Pamilyang Pilipino (or The Evolution of a Filipino Family in English) is about 10 hours long. So far, its the longest i heard of.

Why has nobody mentioned Vonya I Mir (War and Peace) [1968]?

The cut video version for sale, it is a real movie movie not a miniseries, is 6 hours 62 minutes (402min) -- I know because I have it. In the US it was released as 390 minutes (6 h 30 m), but it originally clocked in at 511 minutes -- 8 hours 31 minutes.

They say if it were made today it would be more than a $530 million to make.
