Admiration for Astrid's Mother - Criminal Charges for Miss Martinez

I love this film. That's the first thing to say. Anything directed by Peter Kosminsky is going to be a classy piece of work, and this is no exception.

Yes, Astrid's mother is self-absorbed, manipulative and unlikeable but I can't help admiring her. I think I would quite enjoy being more like her!

Could there ever be anyone worse at her job than Miss Martinez? This useless woman continued to place Astrid in some of the worst environments imaginable. Miss Martinez was clearly a stranger to due dilligence. Yeesh, someone should have investigated her and fired her @$$.

Billy Connolly was miscast as the Mother's boyfriend but he was hot property after Mrs. Brown, so maybe that's how he got the part.

After this film, Alison Lohman deserved to be a much bigger acting name. She certainly held her own against Michelle, Robin and Renée.

For me, this is a film that stands up to repeated viewings.

Miss Martinez certainly appeared to be negligent.

It's that man again!!

No, Martinez was just overworked and slightly apathetic. Astrid's Mother was rotten to the core (that was evident from even the beginning of the movie). She deserved no respect.
