IF THIS MOVIE WERE FROM HOLLYWOOD...

THE SAUERKRAUT POET WOULD BE CAPTURED ON NATIONAL TV

KJELLS GIRLFRIEND WOULD NOT BE DRINKING WINE AT 9 MONTHS PREGNANT

THE LITTLE HOUSE KJELL BARNE MAKES FOR ELLING WOULD GET SMASHED INTO A THOUSAND PIECES.

reply

I was just waiting for the little model to get smashed. I really, really was. It just seemed to good to be true.

As for the drinking and smoking, you know, it's amazing, but I never thought about it until I read you guys' reactions to it here. Slightly spooky.

reply

Thank goodness this wasn't a hollywood movie!

Huzzah!

In the play version (currently running in London), Elling actually smashes the model. It's interesting that you mention it.

I decided to be the smaller person after all. I knew I would.

reply

actually, a beer or a glass of wine in the 3rd trimester is okay by doctors.

reply

ONE beer or ONE glass of wine is relatively harmless for most pregnant women at any stage. The thing is, too many women just don't know when to stop.

If the movie was made from hollywood, it would be called "dumb & dumber"

reply

I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. While watching it, I thought that a remake (made anywhere) could star Tony Shalhoub and Gerard Depardieu in the main roles.

But really, the film doesn't need to be remade. It is just fine the way it is.

reply

True, it does not need a remake.

reply

- Elling would go on and on about his mother until Kjell holds a dramatic speech about having to let her go

- Elling would be played by Benedict Cumberbatch

- Kjell would obnoxiously hit on the waitress whose breasts he, uh, admired

reply

No doubt about it.
