Full Retard

Sean Penn totally went full retard in this movie. That's why he didn't get an Oscar nom.

reply

Never go fully retard indeed...LOL, that had to be the funniest line I heard in a while...props to "Tropic Thunder"! The only other instance I laughed my ass off was in "There Is Something About Mary" when Cameron Diaz asks Matt Dillon about his work to which he replies something to the effect "I work with retards...".

I must have read this review many times and it still cracks me up! Enjoy...until we get the next "retard cinematic masterpiece of s*it"!

There's also Charly - based on the short story Flowers For Algernon
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062794/

It's Peter Parker's uncle playing a retard! I haven't seen it, but in the story he's a retard who undergoes some surgery and becomes smarter before eventually regressing.

So I guess he didn't go full retard - and he won an Oscar! Kirk Lazarus knows what he's talkin about.

Daniel Day Lewis went Full Retard in My Left Foot and got the Academy Award for Best Actor that year for that role. So basically, this whole "going Full Retard won't get you an Oscar nom is bull crap". Daniel Day did it.

reply

Erm, he had cerebral palsy mate, he was a gifted artist, physically disabled not retarded.

reply

"Cerebral" means "brain", and it's considered "retarded". F.Y.I., Webster's dictionary defines "RETARDED" as; slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development or academic progress. Your brain control's emotional as well as intellectual processing, so it goes hand-in-hand.

reply

You're a bit ignorant mate. Cerebral palsy is a physical disability caused by damage to part of the brain which controls movement and motor skills, the point of My Left Foot is that he wasn't mentally retarded at all, he was just treated that way.

reply

This is the most circular argument I've stumbled across in a while. Hilarious. The final sentence is the cherry on top.

reply

Dude, look up what cerebral palsy is. Or ask any psychologist whether cerebral palsy is a form of retardation. Cerebral palsy doesn't affect intelligence, and a disability that doesn't affect intelligence is not a form of mental retardation.

Please tell me you're not ignorant enough to think that any kind of brain disorder = retardation.

As for the whole "full retard vs. half retard" thing, 1. Sean Penn got a nomination for I Am Sam. I personally didn't think he deserved a nomination that year, but he was nominated, despite what it says in this thread. 2. I really don't see how Tom Hanks' depiction of retardation in Forrest Gump was any more subtle than Sean Penn's in I Am Sam. I'd say they're pretty easily both "full retard" performances.

Daniel Day Lewis was not mentally disabled just physically disabled. What I mean is, the mental thinking and the brain power is there

Please do not use the term "full retard." The term is offensive, and not even a real term or concept. The new term for mental retardation is intellectual disability.

Daniel Day Lewis is an actor who portrayed Christy Brown. Daniel Day Lewis did not actually have the disability portrayed in the movie. Christy Brown wrote the autobiography, My Left Foot, on which the movie was based. Mr. Brown had Cerebral Palsy. Not everyone who has cerebral palsy has an intellectual disability. Sometimes they just have a physical disability.

Also, not everyone with a disability has an IQ that is below normal. Please use respectful terms when talking about people who have any kind of disability. I have a niece who has Down Syndrome. She is a very talented little girl. She has an uncanny sense of direction, is an excellent swimmer, can read and write, and has filmed two commercials.

He had cerebral palsy and could paint better than you. Not full retard. You have no idea what you're talking about do you?

Here's a slinky, go play.

reply

I can't believe how many retards aren't reali[s/z]ing what 'full retard' is in reference to. Even when they're told.

reply

You can actually spell realize or realise either way...they both mean the same thing and both are english. America usually teached to spell with a Z and Enlgish use an S.
I am not trying to dig a hole here, but I don't really see where it matters. Depending on your accent when you actually speak the word out loud probably determines how you spell it. But for real, if you know what the person means then what does it matter. Why do people bash other people on message forums for gramatical errors, just because they don't agree with what they are saying? What does spelling have to do with anything unless the word is SO mispelled you can't even read it.

For instance, if anybody disagrees or feels offended by my post, in their response they have to mention that I didn't spell something correctly. That I am an utter idiot because I earlier spelled "grammatical" with only one M.

reply

Realise in Aussie Land bru.
I hated it when Word used to automatically correct it with a "z".
My English teacher spells it with a z though, which also annoys me, but she acts like she's on crack or something.

What is happening to you…? You'll see. You'll see to. You'll all see. You'll all see.

REALIZE YOU STUPID BRITISH BASTARDS! and Aussies.....

Pretty sad if you believe that sh*t just because it was said in a stupid comedy movie, Pineapple Express was way beter than Tropic Thunder so how it won best comedy is beyond me and plenty of other people.

He got nom retard, just didn't win it.
He should've, though.
He was really good.

I'd say you just went full retard. He did get an Oscar nom. He didn't win though.

Tropic Thunder has ruined Sean Penn's acting in this movie, lol.

Yep...going full retard won't help! Next in line Jamie Foxx in "The Soloist"...the irony is his co-star is Robert Downey Jr. who dispensed that amazing piece of advice in "Tropic Thunder". I guess Foxx didn't listen and went full retard...
