My favorite quote

This movie is awesome and there is this one quote that always cracks me up:

Suzie: Do the carolers have to pay you?
Will: Well yeah they should but you can't always catch the bloody bastards!

haha that just gets me every time :)

i love hugh grant!!!!!!!!

reply

The whole movie exists out of funny quotes, but here are my top faves:

- The whole Ibiza thing: "I'm bloody Ibiza!!"
- "Terrible! But driving really fast behind the ambulance was fantastic!"
- "No, no. You've always had that wrong about me, I really am this shallow." --> grrrrrreat :).

reply

Your right, I love those qoutes I also liked
"Oh, S*** it can't be, 6 weeks before christmas and they're already playing the bloody thing."
I also liked it when Hugh had that face when he said "Ooh, I'm so scared." I love hugh, he's my fav actor in the whole world, not to mention the cutest!

Oh, shut up you're wounding my soul!

What's cool about them?
I don't know, they took drugs and died or something.

There are a lot of lines I like, but I'll single this one out now:

(When Will sees the loaf of bread floating next to the dead duck) "Bloody hell, Marcus, you didn't have to throw the whole loaf in. That would kill me."

--"The principles of surgery are the same above and below the neck."--

I would have to say that my favorite quotes are from the scene when Will and Fiona are speeding to the school talent show.

Fiona: I mean, he's a special - very, very special boy and he's got a special soul, and I've wounded it.
Will: Oh, please, just shut up. You're wounding my soul.

Fiona: He's expressing himself!
Will: No, he's not! He's expressing YOU!

And the Christmas dinner at Fiona's with Marcus' father, his girlfriend, and her mother...

"Are we having duck? DELICIOUS!"

"What’s not to like? Custard? Good. Jam? Good. Meat? Gooooood."

reply

I agee my FAvorite scene is "Are whe having duck?"

"Bad Squishy! Bad squishy"

reply

I know, it's a classic! Also: "'Shake Your Ass', is he Moroccan??".
And those quotes aren't in the book -- I was so dissapointed :S.

reply

on a different note- my fave quote that was in the book but not in the film was "I like Pinky and Perky." had me in stitches! i was quite dissapointed that bit wasnt in the film.

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things- and no good thing ever dies.

reply

The book has some pretty good quotes of its own though.

joey eating rachels trifle . 10 points for me

reply

The best quote, according to me:

Will: ...and she (Angie) didn't have a DVD or satellite or cable, so we were always stuck watching some crap made-for-tv movie about a kid with leukemia.

reply

nah - got 2 be the bit where Will finds out that Kurt Cobain has done himself in and it ses summit like

'all this ment to Will is that Nevermind would sound so much cooler'

that one made me laugh for about five minutes, considering i was actually listening to Nevermind as I was reading that bit. i had to stop and listen to the whole album after that - it DOES sound cooler coz the guys actually dead, but also kinda depressing coz of the gun thing - like in Come As You Are, for example. whenever i read that bit now i always think of the lyric

'no, I don't have a gun'

*rolls eyes*

reply

I've always liked the whole Kirk O'Bane subplot in the book myself. Great stuff.

reply

I loed the line

"And the worst part was when they closed their eyes"

I don't think thats right but it was soooo funny!!

It was terrible terrible. But driving really fast behind the ambulance was fantastic.

reply

Yeh - i re-read that bit the other day, it's brilliant.

On Cobain’s suicide -

'all this meant to Will was that Nevermind would sound so much cooler'

reply

One of my favorites goes something like this (as in this is probably not at all right):

"I was killing them softly with my song. Or rather, they were killing me. And not that softly."

reply

i loved this movie and found it so funny!all the quotes mentioned are classic but the one that stood out in my mind before reading all the replys was teh simple.....'i think i killed a duck'fantastic!!

reply

The best quote in the movie has to be, in my opinion, at the hospital, after the nurse has told them that Marcus was going to have to stay the night with them and Will says:

"So my place or yours?"

How insensitive can a person be? Kills me every time.

reply

This quote probably isnt that funny but it cracks me up every time. In the restaurant scene when Fiona is shouting at will about the "after school dinner parties" and Will says something followed by "You f*cking hippy!"

LMAO

"Say what again motherfu**er I dare you, I double dare you"- Jules, Pulp Fiction

reply

Where they go out for a meal:

Marcus voiceover: I made mum put on that nice hairy jumper she got from a friend. At least she smelled nice.

Will voiceover: The kid seemed to think this was some kind of date. As for his mum, well she was clearly insane and seemed to be wearing some sort of Yeti costume.

reply

I laughed my tits off at all of the above... but the scene where Marcus first talks to Ellie always gets me:-

Marcus (walking along behind Ellie singing along to Mystical's 'Shake your Ass')

Ellie: Hey titch, what did you just say to me?

Silence

Ellie: you heard me you squitty little Sh**y snot-nosed bastard!

Also, it tickled me when Will warned Marcus that if he went out with Ellie it would be 'more like owner and pet that boyfriend/girlfriend'.

What a stunning film!

reply

the film (i haven't read the book) had so many hilarious quotes but i especially loved the part where will gives marcus a cd as a christmas present. can't remebember it word for word, but it went sth like that:
marcus's mum: so, what kind of music is it?
will: it's kinda world music
sb: hmm, "shake your ass"?
will: well, world music SLASH rap

reply

Must chuck this in as well:

Will: So this is what they mean by a natural high, and it only cost £60. I had made a unhappy boy temporarily happy and there was nothing in it for me - I didn't even want to shag his mum.

reply

marcus: "we're vegetarians"
will: "i never would've guessed, steak sandwich please"

hahaha

i gotta admit, i didn't care for hugh grant too much, never really saw him in movies, this was actually the only movie i saw with him i believe and i absolutely love it, it's been a favorite since. any ideas of any of his other movies that are like this one with him in it?

"About a Boy" and "Bridget Jones's Diary" go hand in hand I think, (tho About a Boy is my favorite ^_^). I think I remember hearing on the bonus features of About a Boy that Hugh Grant was chosen for Will partly because of his role in Bridget Jones--so I HIGHLY recommend Bridget Jones's Diary!!! Hugh Grant is great in it-I don't want to give away the story, but it's very entertaining, funny, etc etc etc. :-)

He was also sweet in Sense and Sensibility. Dunno if you're into that sort of film, but it's worth seeing. :-)

"Honey, you know i gave up cigarettes for my New Year's resolution, but i didn't give up smOkin!"

reply

Have you tried "Love Actually"?

reply

I love that line. Also when Marcus is thinking to himself, "This is going really well. I wonder if we'll move into Will's place or someplace new". lol

reply

Omg yes! I laughed so hard at that!!

reply

for some reason the part that always cracks me up is right at the beginning when Will is meeting Imogen for the first time and Barney walks in the room and Will says "Hello Bar-ney! How are you?" it's not the words/lines that get me but the VOICE he says it in, so innapropriatly childish and sing-songy. but as for clever lines, the bit about Fiona's yeti costume is great...

reply

A couple of my favourite quotes:

Marcus's mum"Will,am i a bad mother?"

Will"No,..you're just a barking lunatic."

haha..and...

Allie: "Well it better be.... or you're gonna die!"

The way he says it is so funny.
Also

Allie:SHE'S NOT KEEN ON HIM! SHE'S ONLY KEEN ON MEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

Allie:SHE'S NOT KEEN ON HIM! SHE'S ONLY KEEN ON MEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not a line, but I like how Will keeps trying for a high-five and is always left hanging.

I liked the whole Yeti costume thing as well, but I guess one of my favorite lines would be when Will and Marcus are explaining to the guard at the park that, no, Marcus was actually trying to sink the duck (and the guy actually believes it?), and when the guard guy is leaving Will looks all fake concerned and says, "I hope it's not some sort of an epidemic..."

reply

The best quote is definatley: "Don't try and tell me about being melodramatic, YOU DAFT.... *beep* HIPPY!" and of course "I'd be the worst possible Godfather. I'd probably drop her on her head at her christening. I'd forget all her birthdays until she was 18. Then I'd take her out and get her drunk. And, let's face it, quite possibly try and shag her." V. Funny!

reply

The yeti costume bit is really funny, but also when he's just told Rachel that marcus isnt his real son and she goes

"this my fault I suppose......blah blah because of some pyscoligical need in me"

The Will goes

"well dont beat yourself up about it.....it could happn to anyone."

It's just such the wrong time and place and your like AHH Will, but at the same time you can't help laughing.

reply

Hahaha yeah the whole movie cracks me up... just reading all the quotes makes me realise why it is so funny :P but i like the bit when he's asked to be imogen's godfather and hes like

'i'll take her out on her 18th birthday, get her drunk, and lets face it - probably try to shag her'

yeah and also the bit in the restaurant with fiona and marcus and its like

"dont acuse me of being melodramatic - this is coming from a woman who tried to...."

Marcus "oh cowabunga!"

"whats the matter with you?"

"nothing, just felt like a shout"

"jeezus what a family"

reply

i love those as well, but the whole movie and the book above all are great

reply

the best is when Marcus' mom and Will are in the restaurant argueing about Marcus coming over to Will's, then Marcus screams something out.
i think is sometihng like "COWABUNGA (something).... Everyone else was yelling, so I did too"

that was so hilarious.

reply

He says "Oi! COWABUNGA!"

reply

There are so many great and funny quotes in this one, and in the book!

reply

the best from the movie is "Are we having duck? Delicious!" and "Oh, God, the antichrist."
and from the book is the "Blood on the Tracks was different, it was about pain and damage. Santas Super Sleigh wasn't supposed to be like that at all." and "There was nothing between her and the songs; she was inside them. She even closed her eyes when she was singing."

"Come in," she said,"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

reply

[deleted]

i have to agree that they were a bt naff!

i liked the voiceover bit at the start when will calls barney the antichrist!

i also like the chrismas bit
Rachael: how do i use the blender
Will: You Don't

and i liked oi cowabunga/i felt like a shout from marcus

i only watched the film last night for the first timeand it was much better than i expected. very enjoyable wih a fantastic soundtrck. even though i prefer the book ending, the film ending was good. its quite a wrench praisin it because i usually hate book to film transitions but this on passed my test!

The look on Will's face in the store when he hears Santa's Super Sleigh for the first time that year is classic... and when Marcus is singing "Rainy days and Mondays always get me down..." in class had me cracking up, I can't stand the Carpenters

reply

Will: "Wait! Hang on. Hang on. Come on, we're going back."
Marcus: "He's off his head."
W: "No, he's not."
M: "He said he'd cut me up into little pieces and hide me under the floorboards."
W: "He did?"
M: "No. But I'm sure he's capable of it."

My vote also goes to Ali!

Ali: If your dad goes out with my mum, you're gonna be dead, really dead.
Marcus: I don't think it's really up to me, now is it?
Ali: Well it better be... or you're gonna die.

Love the way he says "well it better be". Great delivery!

I'm BOTH! I'm a celebrity - in an emergency.

reply

[deleted]

Oh, here he is, the Anti-Christ. "Hi, Barney."

Why, it's that delightful TV leprechaun. I'm going to get your Lucky Charms.*drills*

reply

Anything that comes from Ali, seriously he's amazing.

Also, and I can't believe no one said this:
"You love animals, don't you Marcus?"
"Yeah, ducks are my second favourite animal, after dolphins, they can kill sharks. With their noses."

Dear lord. Such a movie.

I personally love the grandmother.
"Are you a professional santa? How lovely!"
Bit overdone though, granted.
