So bad it was almost good... almost

I rented this movie and fell asleep twice while watching it but ended up suffering through it as to not completely waste my money for the rental.

This movie has the campiness of Evil-Dead, the dialog of a 5th grader's creative writing assignment, the worst story ever, and implemented terribly at that, like one set in the entire movie, the budget of pocket change, the cast of a bunch of japanese film students with nerdy matrix-wannabe costumes. The camera angles sucked and the production value as a whole was awful.

I didn't know it was possible to make a movie with samurai vs. Japanese mafia vs. escaped convicts vs. zombies hella *beep* Until now.

This movie is good only by falling into the "so bad it's good" category. It's mildly entertaining but universally overrated.

I have to join in with the noob bashing.

Anybody who complains about the camera work in this is an absolute fool. Ryuhei Kitmamura is simply one of the greatest action directors of all time. His jump cuts are second to none and his match-on-action cuts in the fight scenes are brilliant given the lack of continuity errors (show the fight with the 'Prisoner' and the 'Punk' to any director and they'll have their jaws on the floor).

As a bachelor of arts with a degree in Film Studies, I hearby use my education to give my opinion further credit. With added arrogance. So there.

But wouldn't it work better if the supposedly educated one could spell "hereby"?

last 2 dvds: Dr. Cyclops (1940) & El espinazo del diablo (2001)

That made it even funnier than it otherwise would have been.

The movie, frankly, wasn't bad. It was just extremely... unpolished.

Had it been 90min instead of 2 hours, it would have been fine. But the fact that they manage to drag the ending out for 45 f!cking minutes, with absolutely NOTHING HAPPENING for quite a bit of that time, bugs the hell out of me.

Sorry but another vote for one of the best low budget japanease action flicks ever made, from what people are writing they seem to fail to understand that in terms of plot/story Ryûhei Kitamura wasnt trying to make anything serious, it's comic book fun & EVERYTHING is done for a laugh in it, imho its his 2nd greatest film, the first Azumi just beating it by a thread of better production!

I don't think that it falls in the "so bad it's good" category, this movie it's just awesome.
