WTF???? Please someone explain this movie...

What I felt about the ending was that. The alien Prot that is was inside Kevin Spacey's body and as the time came he left went inside Bess's body and hence took her with him. We never got to see her speak or move just like how Kevin is shown in the end. That's my interpretation.

You remind me of many girlfriends who could watch an entire movie without saying a word and only at the end say, "I didn't understand it. Please explain it to me."

I guess some people have certain problems with the way their brains are wired up.

They need things to be explained or expounded very simply otherwise they just can't understand the world they live in.

Just finished watching it, and its been 5 years since your post so maybe you have landed on a solid conclusion. But if you are a fan of scfy/fantasy, the conclusion I came to seemed fairly obvious...

Robert Porter was a vessel that alien Proot needed in order to kick it around on earth. Whether it was due to Robert being all f#%ked up by his attempted drowning, or the sheer strain on the mind to have an extraterrestrial consciousness inhabit your body...he was left in a catatonic state when Proot returned home. Bess was gone because she went with him...the doc said at the end, they searched EVERYWHERE...couldn't find her. She seem like a master of hiding? How would Proot know everything he did about the planets and the solar system K-pax was in? The Sheriff said Robert Porter was smart...but as smart as only a handful of astronomers in the world? Doubtful. All the hypnosis, that was like accessing Porter's & Proot's subconscious at the same time. Porters memories were there...but it was Proot behind the wheel. I don't think Proot wigging out at the sprinkler was HIS suppressed memory, I think it was Roberts and Proot related the sprinkler to mean something bad or painful. And no one said "what shoe?" when he was talkin to the dog! He guessed that the dog had a favourite tennis shoe n they hid it from him? No one guesses that well. My last clue was Proot when the Doc confronted him and asked him to accept the possibility he was Robert Porter...Proot did not flynch, and replied "I'll admit that possibility, if you admit the possibility that I am from K-Pax".

I hope this has answered some of those pesky questions that were plaguing you. Nothing is written in stone about this movie, part of its charm I suppose. But based on the evidence, this is just the conclusion I drew
