underrated movie - 5.6 are you kidding?!

I am always fascinated with the concept of time traveling and I thought Guy Pearce did an awesome job portraying this. Also it was funny how Alexander came up with the greatest invention of all time working with crap technology. He came to the future and that hologram just laughed at him.

I loved the film.

the audience can't think. i always rate movies i like 10 because imdb is full of trolls.

The script is full of silly off the top of head nonsense. This annoys a lot of people and they mark it accordingly.

reply

Haha, very well put and fairly accurate.

Sig, you want a sig, here's a SIG-sauer!

I'm with you. I hadn't seen the film in years, and then watched the DVD today. I forgot how great it was. I was absolutely satisfied with everything. I came here expecting to see at least a "7". When I saw it in the high 5s, I was shocked. It's an easy "8".

The movie world is a very perplexing place, and these boards sometimes make me think that IMDB users are in another dimension. Movies like this that are so creative and well played out, and actually made money, are rated low, and garbage films that didn't even break even are rated very high.

Mind boggling.

I think this movie is pretty awesome, worth *at least* a 7.
Anyway, I did rated it a 10 just to compensate for the underrating.

Actually I think 5.6 is too high for this movie. Without getting too emotive I found the movie totally divorced from the book. I also have a problem with the overt racism of the film. All light skinned people are evil, all dark skinned are beautiful and peaceful. Imagine if it had been done the other way. Guy Pearce is too drab to play the lead and while Samantha Mumba is delightful as Mara, why change her name from Weena? Also, the bit about the Moon was rediculous, goodbye physics it was nice knowing you. Missing, also was the charm of the book and the original film. I found the uber Morlock completely contradictory as well, either they were mindless brutes or they weren't. Still, it was mildly entertaining, I would give it 3 but that's my opinion.

This is the problem i have with all fanboys. They can't Judge a movie on its own merits. Its not a great movie. But its hardly the worst Sci-Fi movie i ever seen. Ill admit the original is probably better. But this is really not that bad. Also this went up to 5.9. now. Its should at least be a 6.

reply

So, the rating appears to get better. 5.9 already, so 6.0 is only a matter of TIME :)
Seriously, though, take both ends, compared to older movies this one might seem worse, but, compared to what we see nowadays...

Very underrated. As much as i am a fan of the first movie and the book, i still loved everything about this one. People should learn to appreciate movies for what they are instead of trying to look cynically in comparison to the other works. To be honest, the 1960 movie nowadays feels really outdated and nowhere near the quality we can see in this movie overall.
Nothing about this movie is really that flawed, it has great characters, storyline, stunning special effects for its time and for non-mainstream, challenging new concepts and motivations that weren't in the previous works, and it still has a great review value.
