Was Vernita's attempted sneak attack wrong or "dishonorable"?

You could argue either way:

On one hand, it is really sneaky and under-handed to agree to a duel (under the assumption that both sides will cease hostilities until then) and then take advantage of your opponent letting her guard down in the meantime.

On the other hand, whatever Vernita may have done wrong in the past, maybe staying alive so she can be around for her daughter is more important than any code of honor.

Thoughts?

They are both two of the world's most deadly assassins. If either were to be caught off guard in an attack like that then they would've died a long time ago.
Copperhead died because she assumed that her sneak attack would catch her off guard and it in turn put her at ease.
Which is why she took the Bride's knife to her chest.
So just because they agreed to the duel, doesn't mean that they trusted each other to honor that agreement for one moment.

I actually cant believe that she missed shooting her at that range, being a trained killer and all.
But anyway, be that as it may, like the other poster said, they're assassins. I dont think that they will let things like morals and honour get in the way of self preservation

I just assume she didn't have a good enough grip on the gun to aim it right. There was still cereal in the box after all.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

Yeah, mebbe. I would have thought that within the 'kill bill universe', the elite assassins wouldn't have made such a clumsy mistake. But never mind, it is what it is. If Vernida did succeed in killing her, ol' Quentin would have been pretty peed off, having no more movie to direct.
Going back to the dishonourable thing, Elle Driver had no qualms whatsoever being a treacherous bitch to Bud. She buffaloed Bud worse than the Bride buffaloed Bill.
The whole Deadly Viper Assassination Squad are the epitome of dishonour and amorality.

This explanation doesn't fly.

A trained assassin that's prepared THAT far (installing a loaded gun inside a cereal box), would also be able to practice that 'cereal box gun' move over and over until she can do it perfectly without thinking. There would NEVER be any actual cereal in the box - think how old that cereal must be..

It's just another moviemaking mistake, due to thoughtlessness.

I just assumed that was something she thought up on the fly, to catch Beatrix off guard (which is why she missed). Not to mention that her skills as a trained assassin are obviously rusty after retiring from the viper squad.

When you're talking about two professional killers facing off, I don't think anything would be considered "dishonorable" or off-limits. It's not an MMA match.

It was dishonorable but then again so is beating a pregnant women with your gang.

I was just disappointed that I didn't manage to get to see them fight more.
