Do most adult really like this?

I'm a female in my mid 20s, and I'm not a movie snob or anything. People had been telling me I should see this movie for a while, so finally a few days ago i decided to give it a try. About 25 minutes into it, I'd had enough. It's cute and all, but come on, it's a kid's movie. Why do so many adults like this?

reply

Because it's cute and it's fun. It's visually stunning and just a fun family friendly movie. Adults can like things that are more focused for kids. It doesn't have a lot of double entendre humor. It's just a cute fun movie.

You of course have the right to like or not like a movie and I'm glad you tried it out before deciding. But really, just let go and enjoy it. At least appreciate the skill of the animators. Dealing with water is tough and they did a beautiful job!!! I'm 42. I saw this in 2003 when it came out on DVD. I still love it after all these years! And Dory is just a riot!!! Ellen Degeneres did an awesome job!

I liked it. But then I wasn't an adult when it was released, so there's a lot of nostalgia.

I do think it deserves credit for making a fart joke that was actually funny.

Sad story. You got a smoke?

Uh-huh. How many "kids' movies" open with a mother and nearly all her children getting EATEN within the first 5 minutes?

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

How many fairytales written for children by The Brothers Grimm were actually gruesome and terrifying? They make the beginning of Finding Nemo look like a cakewalk.

reply

Actually, this is not a kids movie. It's a FAMILY movie which means it can appeal to adults as much as it does kids. I'm 46 and I love this movie and I don't need a child around to watch it.

Also, although the method of death is a bit extreme for most analogies, how many children in the audience have lost a parent, or a sibling or some combination thereof due to fire, car accident, 9/11, the wars since then? Also, they did sort of sum it up in an earlier movie, it's called The Circle of Life. Yes, we identify with Nemo, Marlin, etc. as humanized characters, but the are also fish. In the ocean, larger fish eat smaller fish. In the forest, bears chase down and eat other animals.

We were privileged enough to witness a single sea turtle dig his way out of the sand and make his way to the sea one New Year's Day. Four parents and four children watched the struggle absolutely awed and cheering for the little fellow (we seemed to unanimously agree that it was a 'he') while not interfering. When he finally made it into the surf, my husband leaned over and whispered in my ear, 'you know of course that about four feet out from the beach is a shark just waiting for him.' I prefer to think that he survived not only his trip to the water he needed and the food that he was searching for, but also has continued growing. Not least because that same water was between us and the boat that was the only way off the beach.

I saw this movie when I was 17 and I'm 26 now. Love it just the same. I don't know anyone who doesn't like this movie. Critics even loved it!
