That's a pretty deep hole they dug for Hollywood Jack with a single shovel in dry desert earth in apparently just a few hours. And just to threaten him? Why not just threaten to shoot him or even wing him?

They probably did threaten to shot him or even wing him. His face was bloodied, so they probably spent a lot of time beating him up and torturing him off-camera.
