Black Hawk Down had a lot of the same actors as Pearl Harbor

Black Hawk Down, which came out only a few months after Pearl Harbor, had 6 of the same actors in it:

Josh Hartnett
Tom Sizemore
Glenn Morshower
William Fichtner
Ewen Bremner
Kim Coates

How did so many of the same actors end up in both movies?

reply

Both films were produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and the casting for both films was by the same person as well.

It's not uncommon for a film production company to call on the same pool of actors that they have worked with before and are familiar and have a good working relationship.
It is quite common in the industry.

Besides, only two of the actors above had any sort of major role in both Films, while a third had a supporting role in both films, a 4th actor had a supporting role in one film but was little more than a cameo in the other. A 5th actor was little more than a cameo scene in both films and the last one I cannot even remember in either film.

Thanks for the information. Now it makes sense why so many of the same actors were in both films.

Ewen Bremner had much more than a cameo in both films. He was quite conspicuous in Pearl Harbor as the pilot in Danny Walker's squadron with a major stutter and he was also conspicuous in Black Hawk Down as the member of Eversmann's squad who went deaf after he and another soldier got separated from the rest of the squad. I don't remember who Kim Coates was in Pearl Harbor but I know that in Black Hawk Down he was the Delta Force member who got his legs blown off by an RPG while he was riding in the big Humvee column.

I was not claiming Ewan Bremner as a cameo actor. He was one of the two with major roles, with Tom Sizemore being more of a supporting role with less screen time. Being the Sgt mechanic and Col. McKnight.

(Though McKnight is a major character, he has much less screen time than Bremner's character.)

The Character with a supporting role in one film but only a cameo in the other is William Fichtner. His role as the abusive father in Pearl Harbor was barely in the film.

Glenn Morshower is barely in either film. Halsey is seen only once during the Doolittle raid on USS Hornet, and Col Mathews is barely seen in BHD in the command Huey as they are trying to direct the convoy.

Kim Coats, I know he is in it but the parts are so small I don't even remember him.

Kim Coates is the Lt. in Pearl Harbor that helps the Doolittle raiders lighten the planes so they can take off from the carriers. "They're fat ladies, we want skinny ladies". "Yes I'm sure I'm sure, now lose it like your skirt son".

In BHD I only remember him drawing the pictures for his daughter, and pounding knuckles with William Fichtner as the latter moves out to the first crash site. Think his characters name is Wex or some such.

Michel Bay was a huge fan of BHD and has gone on record that this is his favorite war film. He liked the intensity that this was an never ending battle. He replicate it in 13 Hours.
