Beautifully shot.

This film is beautifully shot, it consists of majestic lighting and exploding colour, great film and story.

Great performances by all especially Michael Caine.

Definately worth watching.

agree, although brendan fraser remains a bad actor, let him stay in box office movies

Good on Phillip Noyce for pulling himself out of the 'Hollywood hack' rut by making such an interesting, high-quality, beautiful movie. I saw this last night on BBC2 and was utterly rapt from beginning to end. Everyone involved in "The Quiet American" should be really proud of themselves for helping to bring such a work to the screen.
And Michael Caine? He often 'phones it in' but there was no such slacking in this film at all. He was quite magnificent.

If you read the book, Fraser was just like the character there, much more so than Caine was like his character, by the way.

I agree, film was beautifully shot and Caine simply magnificent! I think a lot of people (who obviously haven't seen TQA) still don't understand why Caine was nominated for Best Actor that year. They actually believe he "stole" the nomination from Richard Gere (from CHICAGO).

But those of us fortunate enough to have seen this film know why Caine received the nod (he also won the London Film Critics award, Golden Satellite award and San Francisco Film Critics award for Best Actor. Had Miramax promoted this film properly, I think Caine could have even been a favorite.

Agreed completely, it was a beautifully-shot movie. Easy to see how one could fall in love with Vietnam, living in a place like that.
