Pootie tang and Amelie

Has anyone noticed the remarkable parallels between Pootie Tang and Amelie?? Most obviously their introductions are nearly identical. A voice over describing the main character's child hood and how they were different from other children. Also the death of a parent in a very strange way. Next, Both of the main characters are obsessed with doing good but do not worry about themselves. Also both main characters are afriad to allow themselves to fall in love. Coincidence, Plagerism, or do great minds just think alike?? Your comments

Go back in time a little more if you're to accuse a work of plagiarism. The truth is that the whole principle of the voice-over introduction comes from Quebec's 'La vie heureuse de Léopold Z'. In fact, it was used in such a similar way in Amélie that many people asked director Jeunet if he had seen Carle's film. Of course, he denied it but the fact remains that it would neither be Amélie or even less Pootie Tang that created such a great gimmick but Gilles Carle's film. By the way, I strongly suggest you try and find a copy of 'La vie heureuse' instead of wasting time on Pootie Tang.

id like to say Pootie Tang has never been released in theater in france, neither it has been dubbed or even released with subtitles, french never heard of pootie tang, must be baaadbadbad lol

I find this very unlikely. Mostly because production on "Amelie" started in 1999. Probably before "Pootie Tang". Also they were released only 3 or 4 months apart in 2001. I don't know. Really, plagerism and "great minds thinking alike" seem improbable. Production schedules were too close together and they were shot in entirely different countries. And scripts aside, there aren't many parallels between the two films. The artistic approach in each film is quite different (one movie is pretentious, the other is just rediculous...guess which is which). I'm not saying plagerism or otherwise is impossible, just improbable.

It just appears to be a matter of coincidence. Although this should come as no surprise. The cinematic techniques in both movies are not new and these are by no means the first films to use them.

I think I enjoyed Pootie Tang more than Amelie.
