Is it just me...

Oh my gosh, Brad Dourif was PHENOMANAL! I was on Saavedro's side about half-way through the game, so once I got the chance to free him on Narayan, I was clicking things as fast as I could! He was so amazing, I felt so bad for him on Narayan. Also, when he killed me a couple of times, he scared the crap out of me! I wish you could have found out if his family survived or not in the end. In my mind, they totally did. :D

I also love him in LOTR, but I've played Exile for so long that I keep picturing wormtongue with long blonde hair and those Narayan robes he wears in the end!

Just yesterday, after watching the evil guy vanish for the second time I went "Man, this guy is acting so WELL... Oh MY... ISN'T THAT... BRAD...???!!"

Checked the manual and WOOOOOOOOOO!!! There's his name and since then I love the game double times. It's great already, it's SUPERB now. I love the guy. He picks very cool projects, mostly pretty dark ones... his appearance really is something, even in DEATH MACHINE (one of those bad but atmospheric, nihilistic movies that I miss out these days). I just love to watch BradDourif-movies for christ's sake. Always have. Having him in the MYST-experience makes me feel at home. Yesterday I got as happy and excited to find his name there as a child opening a present.

No it not just you... He's acting in this game is quite powerful and amazing. He really did a great job to make this story his own. Unfortunately the acting by the guys who play Sirrus and Achenar in Myst 4 is just terrible! Play it and you'll understand. Myst 5 doesn't have live actors, but computer generated characters. Their "acting" is quite brilliant again and facial and body expressions together with voices go perfectly together.

"What's the matter, Atrus? Can't remember how things work? Yet you explained this class so well when we first spoke of it on Narayan: 'I want Sirrus and Achenar to learn everything they can, Saavedro. First from Amateria, Edanna, Voltaic, and finally from Narayan. When my boys come to see your people...I want them to see Narayan's traditions at work so they can see how civilization can balance an Age.' (dramatic pause) Do you know what they did when they finally came to us? You never came back! After class was over, you took your boys away and you never came back. Sirrus and Achenar did."

I know that speech by heart. Brad's delivery brings it to life so brilliantly; that haunted look in his eyes breaks my heart every time. Some parts of his performance throughout the game might be a little over the top, but keep in mind he's been trapped there for God knows how many years, and he's gone insane - he has every right to go over the top. Very few actors could have pulled this role off without sounding just plain camp.

Cross my heart, smack me dead, stick a lobster on my head.
