Is it just me...

...Or was Brad Dourif amazing in this game?

I have to agree with you on this one - it sounds lame to me when I say it out loud, but his acting in this game was wonderful. It's a shame the part of Saavedro didn't require more scenes for Brad to display his talent. I also enjoyed his performance in The Two Towers as Wormtongue...he was wonderfully loathable.

The world doesn't just disappear when you close your eyes, does it?

reply

Completely amazing... I didn't realize it was him until I followed a link from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"

reply

Oh he was brilliant. But then again, he's just a very good actor. I love him.

They say there's always magic in the air...

reply

...when you first arrive in the elevator at Saavedro's retreat(before you fix the elevator and view his message that he recorded over Atrus'), it doesn't look like Brad Dourif is playing him. The voice is different. Am I wrong?

Your world must have very dry literature.

reply

I don't know, but I definitely have to agree. It really doesn't seem like Brad Douriff. I have thought about that many times. I would have to agree though, his acting is really magical in the game. It's just another one of those special little things I love about this game.

"What are you doing? Those wraiths are still out there!"

reply

It was Brad all the way. No stunt doubles :) He did a brilliant job and was a pleasure to work with.

Phil Saunders.

reply

His voice was deliberately altered to simulate him speaking behind the two glass windows between the elevator and the observatory.

reply

He was a brilliant actor in this game, yes. It would have been so easy to over-act his character, but he did it so well. Great job, Brad.

When Brad Dourif handed me Releeshan and begged me to free him to see his family, I couldn't move fast enough! I felt compassion for him as if this were real! He was awsome.

That's exactly how I felt. This game is the first place I ever saw him, and now I'm a huge fan.

That's exactly how I felt! Actually, I was playing the game to help Saavedro, not Atrus, from pretty early on. This game is the first place I ever saw Brad Dourif, and now I'm a huge fan.

reply

He was! When I heard his voice when we see the first message to Atrus, I started to scream b/c it was him! I LOVEd him in LOTR!

At first, since I was VERY close to the screen in a silent dark house while playing, the character scared the living day-lights out of me! But then, when I found out it was Brad, I LOVED the character! I play Exile sometimes just to see his wonderful scenes!

reply

He was outstanding!! They should make one more with him in it where he comes back for Releeshaan after not finding his wife and children. Or finding them slaughtered by Sirrus and Achenar.

They're either Austrailans trying to be American, or Americans trying to be Austrailan.

reply

Well he was pretty much the only real actor in the game. Atrus is played by one of the guys that made the game.

reply

True.

There is nothing to fear, but fear itself!

i actually thought he was really bad. a little bit over acted, especially at the end where he does his "nonononnonononono! etc" i literally said aloud "alright! alright! i'll turn the damn thing on, did i say i wasnt goin to? geeeez! shut up aready.".....lol.

although it might hav been the fact that his dialogue was just badly written.

reply

I thought he was amazing.

I was shouting "It's OK - I'll release you! I'll let you go!! " - at my screen.
When I watched him take off in his search - I wept.

I love the whole Myst series - but it's 'Exile' I replay most.
I think Brad Dourif is a big part of that - I feel really immersed in the game because of the realism he brings to it.
