What ever makes them [disney] WANT to make sequels

I relativitly like this film. but what is always making disney desire to create sequels to films that released 50 years before the main audience was born DTV.they are never needed..ever. I know it is for money but can't they come up with different ideas except for continuation of an old film that has stapled itself into american film history as an achivment in animation. it is sort of an insult

The only disney DTV/DTDVD that I like are Lion King II and Lady and the Tramp II. And Disney is definatyl running out of ideas... Have you seen some of their most recent stuff? Their most modern day thing that they came out with that I really enjoyed was Enchanted. I dont like any Pixar movies except for Finding Nemo. I do want to see Ratatoulle though and Cars seems ok. But that new robot thing looks kinda dumb. I love the classincs. Im so happy they are going back to 2D animation with the Princess and the Frog. Im sick of the 3D stuff. Its nowhere near as good as the Classic 2D.

Yeah, some of the sequels are rather bad. I wasn't too thrilled with the sequel to Hunchback. Seemed kinda dumb, in a way. (Like that part where Madeline falls in love with him just by listening him sing with Phoebes and Esmeralda's son.) It seemed that the movie just existed to give Quasimodo a girlfriend; the plot was rather cheesy.

However, some of the sequels were enjoyable. I'll probably get flamed for saying this, but I liked the second Bambi movie better than the original.

Although, if you want a super-bad sequel, watch Secret of Nimh 2. (Visit the message board for that movie to see what I've got to say about it)

I still enjoy Disney, but I'm not so please with their sequels anymore as I used to be. After Brother Bear 2, everything went down hill for me. Like they really think that the audience will believe that true love covers everything, but it really doesn't. The sequels I like the most they made were The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea and Bambi II

This whole direct-to-video sequel idea started after The Return of Jafar. Since that movie's VHS sales were a success, they didn't care that these sequels cheapened the quality of their original films, and they continued making them purely because of money. That's the movie that began Disney's whole cheapquel travesty.

Mostly money, and at the same time to raise more awareness for the original. If kids see an ad for a new Disney movie and it has '2' on the end, their parents will show them the original.
Just like Disney's new kick of doing live-action remakes to animated films. It will encourage parents to show their children the originals.

As unnecessary as these sequels and remakes are, they help keep the originals in the public light and don't remain forgotten on the shelf.

Having said that, the makers of the newer entries could stand to put more effort into the films, at least try to make the quality slightly resemble the original.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't agree with the common hatred against the DTV sequels/midquels/prequels.
I'm working my way through them now, and I think I have liked every single one.
That said, this movie is weirdly similar to "The Little Mermaid II".
Both of the movies are about the young protagonist wanting to break free and become something else.
But ironically, what they want to be is what one of their parents once was but left behind to get married.
Unfortunately, said parent is bad at talking about their past and still is overprotective without explaining why.
So understandably, the kid eventually runs away from home and gets into trouble...
