stop seeing this movie just for johnny depp

its pretty lame that you guys are seeing this movie just for an actor that doesn't even have that much face time in it. this movie is supposed to be capturing a poets struggling life; its not a gawk session for a bunch of vapid teenage girls that think some actor is "hot".

You don't seem to understand the meaning of "entertainment". There is no "see it because of this and not that," or any sort of demand when it comes to watching a motion picture. People will or wont watch something for whatever reason they wish, for the sake of entertainment. But don't worry, there are plenty of film geeks out there who will see it for the same reason as you, so don't be too sad.

Naturally one would hope that people would want to see this film not for the sole reason of Depp. But the Depp reason should not be entirely panned. If Depp gets a large amount of people to see this gem of a film that skipped it when it was first released, then I think that is a good thing.

Who the hell cares if ppl watch this movie just for johnny depp!? admittedly, my username has johnny depp in it, but that is based on the fact that i was a massive fan when i was about 12 but im 20 now... so if there are teenagers who are only watching it because they think hes hot..then leave then to it, its not doing any harm to anyone!

I watched this movie because I wanted to see Johnny Depp's performance. I am hardly a vapid teenager who thinks he is hot since I am a Senior Citizen who is a grandmother. I think Depp is one of the best actors of his generation. He's certainly the quirkiest with a lot of range in the characters he plays. The first movie I ever saw him in was "Benny and Joon" and I've been a fan ever since. He's careful to choose good roles that have depth to them. I've never seen a movie starring him that I didn't like. I wanted to see what he would do with a bit part.

Depp's performances as the transvestite and the warden were delicious but more importantly I saw a wonderful film that I might have otherwise missed if I hadn't been attracted to Depp's presence in it. Javier Bardem's performance was stunning, the story was interesting and enlightening and the cinematography was gorgeous.

Would you rather people who have no idea about who Reinaldo Arena was not learn about his struggles and work. I am intrigued enough about him that I hope to find a translation of at least one of his novels to read.

funny thing i dindn't even remember that depp was in this movie..!!! i read the book and i loved it and so i saw the movie three years ago and i liked it mostly because of bardem's excellent perfomance...
somehow i saw the cast again and i was like what??? was jonny depp in it?? how come i can't remember him??
anyway..i agree with you but that's "life"..there's difference between those who love cinema and those who love "actors"...personnaly i don't like depp as an actor even though some of his works are quite good and i don't find him hot(my friend call me weirdo for this)!

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

I saw it just because it has Javier Bardem in it. Not because I think he's hot or anything. Just been one of my favorite actors since I started watching Pedro Almodivar movies that have him in it, and then No Country For Old Men. In my opinion, he's among the finest actors in the world. I was pleasantly surprised to see Johnny Depp in it, another actor I have a lot of respect for, and didn't even recognize Sean Penn (although I consider him to be among the creme de la creme as well.)

That wasn't my motive for seeing this film, but Johnny Depp... about as off-the-wall as you can get in this film. For him, that's no small feat.
