1- Network politics/racism
2- ^ Friday nigth death slot
3- ^ Although Chris Rock said he was ended the show, I think he knew it'd be canceled
4- Show wasn't that good to begin with
5- Season 5 was reason enough to cancel the show
6- It was too expensive, that the only reason Fox dropped it and later the WB.
7- It ended because of the sexual harassment suit between Tisha/Martin. Martin didn't want to replace Tisha so he, himself, decided to end the show.
8- WB just decided to.
9- Jamie wanted to move on
10- That shouldn't have happened anyway. SMH

Die too soon? Some of the shows on your list lasted 5 seasons or more, which is not an easy task. Girlfriends was in its EIGHTH season when it was canceled. How long did you want the show to go on? Forever?

If you are reading this, you have just lost The Game.

re: Nothing lasts forever.

You're telling me...and how.

reply

I know I'm by myself on this, but of all the shows you mention, "Girlfriends" is the only one I really like.

Keep in mind that Girlfriends lasted six seasons on UPN. A network that was not in as many markets as FOX, ABC, NBC, or CBS. Even then a six season series was an accomplishment. Name me one other UPN show that last that long.

And then it lasted another two seasons on the CW. It survived the merger of two networks which says a lot for the show. Veronica Mars which also came from the UPN only last one season.

reply

And then, Girlfriends and Everybody Hates Chris would've lasted longer if not for the writer's strike

Shoot him again! His soul's still dancing...

reply

A lot of good shows did suffer because the strike.

reply

I'd say a full season...but nothing beyond that.
As for EHC...since the show was based on Chris's life it was great that he ended it the way that he did.

reply

This idiotic show should have been cancelled sooner! It lasted about 5 seasons too long!

How can you have that top 10 list and not have Half & Half on it? All of Us and One on One NEEDED to be put out of their misery. Half & Half is the real tragedy. Girlfriends and Everybody Hates Chris (and The Game) fell victim to the CW's mad dash to wipe all the color from their channel.

Keep in mind that Girlfriends lasted six seasons on UPN. A network that was not in as many markets as FOX, ABC, NBC, or CBS. Even then a six season series was an accomplishment. Name me one other UPN show that last that long.

Moesha

reply

I didnt know Moesha lasted that long. So the two longest running UPN shows were predominantly African American. UPN had no white centered show which lasted as eitheir of them so that disproves OP post.

reply

If the CW merger had never happened, I feel like Half & Half would have lasted at least another two seasons.

One on One and All of Us might have lasted longer too, despite my feelings.

Those were not good shows. However, they were shows that were funny and that some black people felt they could kick back after coming home and have a laugh while seeing people who looked like themselves. But a number of those shows (if not all, at one point or another) had some really negative messages and stereotypes about black people. But I enjoyed most of them when I watched them and had favorite episodes. I wouldn't fight for them to make a return to television though.
