After season One

Did anyone else find that after season one the show really went down hill? I mean I have never seen a show get so bad so quickly. Season one was amazing, I watched it religiously, taping every episode so I could watch it over and over again. Then season two started and it was like a totally different show, I just gave up half way through.

No, I thought it was gold episode 1 through 83.

I LOVED this show for seasons 1 and 2 but then for some reason when i went to college at the start of season 3 stopped watching. I know the later seasons weren't as good but I would still like to watch them, who knows when

I love(d) this show and watched it every week. It would've done much better if NBC would've gotten behind it and put it in a steady time slot.

As far as the quality of the show. I found in seasons 3 and 4 at times was inconsistent, but was still mostly great. The addition of the Dennis character worked well. Cheswick messing around with Stella and making the calendar was absolutely brilliant. The episode that Phil bowled the ball into the guy's cremated ashes was hilarious. The quasi documentary from season 3 was awesome. Mike putting together Ed and Carol's party was another great late episode. I can go on and on.

I think with Ed they didn't always have to have a funny episode for it to be good. The show wasn't a pure comedy, it was quirky and character driven. If this show came out now it would be a great companion to The Office.

Well it goes without saying I think it was a great show. It may have got a little inconsistent in tone, in seasons 2 and 3, especially with the soapiness of the Ed/Carol thing, but keep in mind that the writers were pioneering a new genre and trying to find a balance between the comedic quirks and the drama. It had been done a little bit in Northern Exposure (though that was more of a tradtional light-hearted drama), but there's no doubt that Ed paved the way for the single camera quirks of Scrubs (Braff was basically a spin-off of Cavanagh's character) and the quick dialogue pace of Gilmore Girls.

I loved watching ED
I never missed an episode and during Season 1 2000-2001 it was amazing.
that era, was also a great time in my own personal life and I associate those great memories with ED

I do agree that Season 2 and 3 were not a good and Season 4 was a drop off for me

What is not clear for me is that during season 2, 2001-2002, my own personal life too a downturn, and maybe that impacted how much I enjoyed the show

I also think that many shows do struggle in Season 2 and perhaps that is due to the amazing standards set in Season 1, Season 2 ends up being a drop-off

I thought the show was great throughout. The only thing that annoyed me was Ed's obsession over Carol who truly was so damaged as a woman, why would he even want to be with her in the first place? It became ridiculous on that point.

Agreed. I dropped off early in season 2. Not sure what happened as I don't remember much of the show anymore apart from the constant dares and Julie Bowen. Maybe there was a romance plot that got resolved too early? Not sure.
