Was this movie influenced by American Beauty? I see lots of similarities with the setting and Jake Gyllenhaal and Wes Bentley’s characters in their respective films being similar to each other. Also the endings both feature the main characters’ finding enlightenment at the moment of death. Also the themes of deconstruction of the upper-middle class suburban life.
