No Redeeming Value

Coles never wanted to grow up and he didn't. So therefore at the end of the movie when Claire puts her hand on his and looks at him with love and understanding .... who is she trying to be? His mother? Because she can't be his equal, his wife, his soul partner. The only thing he would accept is someone to take care of him and be there when he needs it while he does what he wants to do and that's the job of a mom.

This also bothered me. She knew he was never going to shake his feelings for Sam and by logical progression should have left him to wallow in his misery but didn't. I wonder if this is because she'd invested as much time as she did into him (she makes it clear during her reveal speech that she expected more of him and had patiently waited for him to come around).

Right. Even if she is agreeing to forgive and forget there's probably going to be a next time.
