The true meaning of the film

I watched this film for the first time yesterday. I know, shame on me, I don't how I could keep missing it for such a long time.
But, maybe because of that fact that i watched it now enabled me to see some new meanings of it.
I thought it was about imigrated people, refugees.
Chihiro comes to this new world and isn't allowed to be seen, or else she'll be punished or expelled, or whatever. Then, she needs to go from one person to the other through the whole bureaucracy to find a job. And only when she has a job, she's endured in the community, but still not as a full and equal member. That's why she has to do the filthiest work - she has to wash the Stinking monster and prove herself. The monster spits out gold and gives it to the people, showing how greedy they are, that they are worse then the person they think it's not worthy, namely Chihiro, because she says she doesn't need it.
Still have to think how the rest of the film fits into this theory, maybe not at all, but still, just sharing a thought.

Hm... interesting, but I dont agree.

I think the film is about the child's greatest fear, which is also the child's greatest desire: Losing the parents. Which is utterly terrifying, because in our world no child can support and protect itself. But it's also desired at a certain level, because every child also wants independence and dreams of what they'd do if their momma wasnt always telling them what to do.

And as we are all children or former children, this is a feeling we all recognize, and the film has a truly universal theme.
