Why do women go for guys like Daniel Cleaver.......

...then moan when they get cheated on? It seems that even if the guy in question has a bad reputation all he has to do is say something along the lines of "I've been really bad in the past, but you're special and I love you!!" and said filly immediately becomes putty in his hands! Are these women really that stupid?!

reply

When you figure it out, let me know. I've never understood it either.

reply

Haha, yeah. I don't know why that is. I've always assumed women like that think they can change the guy and when that doesn't happen, they cry into their Häagen-Dazs.

Perry: "You, stop multiplying!"

reply

Either that or they're so deluded/arrogant they think it won't happen to them.

And in the second film, despite everything, Bridget nearly sleeps with Cleaver again!! It's mind blowing how much of this insanity goes on in real life too.

Neither for me. I fell for the Daniel Cleaver type once, and to be honest, he is the ONE man that, to this day, could get me to cave to him. I knew what he was like when I started seeing him. We did have more of a friends with benefits relationship at the start, but I still fell in love with him. I knew who he was and what he was like, but I still found myself easily manipulated by him for some reason...and I am NOT easily manipulated, lol. I didn't try to change him and never thought I would. I can't explain why he had such a hold on me...something to do with chemistry and his charisma and charm. When I was with him, he made me feel beautiful and like I was the only woman in the world, but then, that's how those types work. Even I knew that at the time. I won't get into all the details, but I will say that I can completely sympathize with Bridget in this movie (right down to being torn between the "good" boy and the "bad" boy), especially the scene where he shows up at her birthday party when Mark is at her house. You can see her about to kiss him...getting swept up by his charm. It's almost like she can't help herself. I know that feeling well, lol.

well you clearly are easily manipulated, otherwise you wouldn't have fallen for him

That's incredibly unfair. Just because you fall for a man you shouldn't, it doesn't mean you're easily manipulated. I fell for the wrong guy once but I didn't let him manipulate me. As soon as I realised he had taken me for a ride, in every sense of the word, I punched him spark out and broke his jaw. I did my crying and complaining and then I got over the *beep*hole. He never manipulated me into anything. My feelings grew over ten years.

Could I ask why men like Daniel act the way he does? Why do they do what they do?

I mean, it's almost the same question from another point of view.

reply

i agree with florentyna1972. Why aren't we asking why men like Daniel act the way they do. Instead you put all the blame on the women. Nice.

Your question should be why do nice honest people fall for mean, cheating people.

It's sad how common this still is. In every aspect of life.

Because it obviously works well in getting women. Maybe if women didn't give those men so much positive reinforcement, maybe less of those men would act that way.

Your resentment is palpable.

Haha! Yep! I think we've found the "nice guy" here!

I think that's the real answer. Combined with the fact that the guys who do this are usually pretty attractive in the first place, which is why they get away with it. They also tend to rack up a lot of experience, so they know how to push a girl's buttons.

Because Hugh Grant looked freakishly hot in this movie. I know that doesn't answer your question but I had it spit it out!

It just happened to me, so I probably can explain a little bit:

Because they seem to be too charming and sophisticated, usually are very handsome, can act as if they are really "into you", can take you to fun trips, you choose to disregard the BIG red flags and are like Bridget Jones day-dreaming about the wedding day...

Until you notice that they just communicate with you once a month to "catch up", they have never given you any kind of present or flowers, you see used *** in their bathroom trash...

Unluckily and shallowly, the Darcies in real life are usually not as attractive or successful as in the movie.
