some one has got to have liked the film

ok so there are so many threads going on the film was terrible or it wasn't as good...but let's pretend the book isn't there....let's pretend this is just a film we have gone to watch because we liked the idea of the film, liked the actors...hell even liked the genre.

so i do ask people not to bash the film so much on this thread because you have so many to threads to put negative comments on i want to keep this positive....(not that i can control you but it would be nice)

i loved the film. i saw it for only the first time last night and i was really captivated by the film...normally i don't watch war films (even if they are more romance then anything) but because Mr Cage was in it i gave it a shot...

and i wasn't disappointed. he was as wonderful as ever..yes his accent did make me laugh (in the beginning where he reads out *beep* off'...just the way he says it) but as the film progressed i thought yeah it's ok.... and then the film turned nasty i spent much of the later part of the film (especially the excution) saying no no....stop don't do that...you can't kill him......he's corelli...he's nic cage....

god my heart nearly stopped when they opened fire on him...so many films have killed off romantic leads suddenly and bam no happy ending..... thank god he was alright..... oh and i loved his singing....her (Mz cruz) i'm not a big fan of... but she was alright for what she was..and Mr Bale was also breath taking in his role....

ok so please keep this thread positive..... thanks

Personally I liked the film a lot. Every now and then I enjoy something different, that does not have that typical holywood feel to it.

Read the book IN Kefalonia, Saw the film after my 3rd visit to the Island (Im now up to 9) and I love it...

I was really surprised when I saw all these negative critics about the movie. I loved it! And all of the actors did a great job...

reply

I agree that the movie is pretty good - it's not perfect, but it doesn't deserve as much criticism as it gets. For some reason it became one of those movies that people decided to beat up on.

It's disgraceful it wasn't nominated for any Oscars, as amongst others, John Hurt should have been nominated.

i loved this film, although some scenes were mercilessly disturbing. my only negative point is that i dnt feel they developed their love very well, cos one minute she is aiming a gun at him, and the next he is playing songs for her and telling her he loves her. i just wished they developed it a bit more.

I loved this film. And, according to some, fairly accurate rendition of life and times on that island back then.

Absolutely loved it!!! Watch it at the very least once a year, with my father. he laments the poor Italians and remembers very well how it was for them at this point in history. So I appreciate the hollywood spin and the truth of the story as well. I did read the book, and people should realize that a film and the book it was "based on" are always two very different creations.

This movie is the best piece of crap I've ever seen! I first saw it when it was showing as a midday movie on TV.
I had just come home from the hospital after spending several days recovering from appendicitis, so naturally I felt like crap. I couldn't eat anything and had to come to terms with the ugly scar I now had on my lower abdomen...depressing!

However when I saw this tremendous disaster with its bad dialogue and even more disastrous acting I had a great old time...so yes to answer your original question, someone out there did enjoy this film (so to speak).

Thank you Cage, Cruz and Bale you made my day.

Here's the thing... I did LOVE the film, and it was gorgeous.
And I did love the book.
It's just the way the two of them didn't really seem to join together..
But no, I did love the film, it was absolutely beautiful. But I did find myself at the end yelling at the screen and listing the differences. But I get a bit worked up about those type of things.
BUT (for the fourth time), it's a great film.

I didn't read the book and I thought the movie stank--and when the "Nazis" opened fire on the Italians what else did you expect? Are German soldiers in Hollywood movies ever scripted to do anything other than act like completely irrational and inhuman homicidal maniacs?

reply

You do realize that is the sort of thing that did happen? In World War 2 the Italians did fight back against the Germans and many were executed because of it. So that part of the movie was fine.

reply

let's pretend that this film is about a jewish woman having sex with hitler while her husband is burned in one of the mythical ovens, would you enjoy it then? i'm a palestinian and i couldn't.

i mostly will not be able to answer your reply, since marissa mayer hacked my email, no notification

Sound like you are a turd.

reply

John Hurt alone would be a reason to love the film. Superb. RIP
