Centurions live action film

When I was a kid watching this show on Saturday mornings, (long before it became fashionable for live action movies of children shows), I used to hope that a movie would be made. I always thought that some characters were based on real life actors-
Max Ray both looked and sounded like Tom Selleck.
Jake Rockwell was Steven Seagal.
And who better to be Hacker than Arnold Schwarzeneggar?
Okay thats only three characters, but from twenty years ago I don't think my memory is that bad.
Ace I was never too sure about, but then you can't have everything.
Krystal could have been any hot blonde at the time.
Doc Terror did remind me of someone but I don't remember who.

Anyone else think the same, or have alternate names in mind?

reply

Well that would be nice a live action movie, I think that would be possible because the people now have better technology than they had at that time to make one live one.
They could make the live one now, I just hope if they do that, then that the beaming down scenes would be a succes and no fiasco if you know what I mean, it has to look exactly like in the cartoon when they yell:POWERXTREME!!!!, when the weapon systems get on their exoframe and transformations.

Oh I agree entirely. If a film was to be made with those actors then it would have to have been in the eighties. I was just wondering if the characters or at least the drawings were based on those actors, well Max and Jake anyway.

I remember now, Doc Terror reminded me of Tommy Lee Jones. Again probably too old now to do it, but at the time...

There is already a live action "adaptation" of Centurions, it's called Captain Power and the soldiers of the future

LOL Tom Selleck as Max Ray.....would be good, Magnum was a Navy Seal in Magnum P.I. and had the best stache

reply

I always thought that Tommy Lee Jones could've made a good Jake Rockwell (just like a Magnum PI era Tom Selleck would've made the most ideal Max Ray) in a hypothetical live-action movie.

Also Arnold is the governor of California.

Some cartoons are better left animated, no matter how awesome they are

reply

I think a Centurions game would be better. Then you could keep the classic animation, and the campiness.

reply

I believe the centurions is very possible with today's technology in film

Obviously some of the things would have to change like updating the suit to be a more darker nature than the very bright ones in the series!!

Possible actors who could carry it could be:-
Max Ray - Vince Vaughn
Jake Rockwell - Hugh Jackman
Ace Mcloud - Matt Damon
Kristal - Jessica Biel/Simpson

Dr Terror - Alfred Molina
Hacker - Billy Zane

Rex Charger - Will Ferrell
John Thunder - Hrithik Roshan

Well thats what I was thinking in the last five minutes of would cats could be! Never the less fingers crossed it will be done in the near future!!

Actually, funny you should mention Ace McCloud possibilities because I always thought that Dirk Benedict (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/mptv/1362/Mptv/1362/9640_0086.jpg.html?hin t=nm0070767) would be perfect for the role.

reply

Might I suggest someone who is younger than Dirk Benedict to play Ace Mcloud? He's older than my mother is.

How about Adam Baldwin (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000284/) for Jake Rockwell.

reply

Sure. He'd be great if he got rid of the pig bristles.

Lol, that's a promotional picture. He wouldn't be much of an actor if he insisted on keeping a frenchie on every role he played!

YES! 100% YES!

Josh Lucas or Matthew McConaughey would be very good for the role of Ace McCloud.

I have been reading these messages and came up with an idea of who to play what:

Max Ray "Chris Evans" or "Nicholas Cage"
Jake Rockwell "Hugh Jackman"
Ace McCloud "Matthew McConauhey"
Rex Charger "Paul Walker" or " James Marsden"
John Thunder "Litefoot" the guy from indian in the cupboard.
Kristal Kane "Jessica Alba"
Doc Terror "Alfred Molina" or "Brian Cox"
Hacker "Vin Diesel" or "Michael Chiklis"

Now the way they should try to do it, if they take this, is start off with all five of them from scratch. introduce all five all at once. and while they are learning their weapons systems, doc terror hits, but still in his human form, and during the fight, him and hacker get injured and they become the cyborgs later on in the movie. But during that process is when the robots attack to cover the change over from human to cyborg doc terror and hacker.
during the movie, the weapons systems keep getting upgraded then all of a sudden, the three mains, max, jake, and ace get over run in their areas of expertise. so, all five start using each others systems, not just their own. then at the end of the movie they start interchanging pieces from each others systems to create the ultimate weapon system.
That is all the ideas i have for now, hope it goes some where.

if they ever would do that, it would be the best movie made of the cartoon movies come to live action.

They totally could do an awesome job of Centurions with the right team. I'd say go with unknown actors, as the first Transformers did.
Start with the original 3 guys, they can always recruit more in the future. Have it as some goverment initiative... the possibilities are endless...

... the best bit... they could miss out Lucy the annoying Orangutan!!

Hopefully if it does happen a live action Centurions movie will have a rock solid scriptwriter and an even better director along with legitimate actors. Let's cross our fingers and pray.

milpol I gotta ask..why Nicholas Cage? Also the bit about the ultimate weapon system. sounds like something from power rangers ya know?

reply

I'm kind of stumped on the subject of who could play Ace McCloud and Dr Kane.

NC way b4 sky and cable?.my family got sky in late 86 with 250 channels on it.US got it earlier in 82 with mtv etc

reply

Sounds like a great line up milpolb6723, but agree with one of the other people on here it should be done with unknown actors to start with and maybe just 1 or 2 well known actors in supporting roles. Transformers is an ideal example of this and is a film that has no-doubt re-fired interest in adapting old franchises from the 80's. I mean there's a new He-Man film 're-boot' currently being made by Warner Bros, which is following the Batman Begins style of showing how Adam becomes He-Man and how Skeletor became a corrupted evil talking skeleton due to his (Gollum-like) obsession with the Sword of Greyskull. If they do it right (as I am sure they will), then it could spark even more interest in 'rebooting' more old 80's franchises like The Centurions. :)

I remember watching this series when I was a kid (in the UK) on an anarchic Saturday morning kids show called 'Get Fresh.' If I remember correctly, it was their flagship cartoon series and most kids were watching it (as we only had 4 TV channels in the UK back then, way before Satellite & Cable TV!), so I'm sure the fans are still out there somewhere.

I would love to see this POWERRRRRRRRRR EXTREEEEEEEEEEEME-EME-EME-EME-EME-EME!!!! :P
