If you're looking for Destinos, there are vhs copies of the series, I should know, it's a part of Friday's lessons in Spanish.

I'm working my way through the series (VHS) via my public library (which doesn't seem to have the DVDs). I'd love to just buy them, but can't afford that price tag currently.

reply

I think the channels that they play on are these special channels you have to pay and subscrive to (and usually only schools have them) I costs about $500 if you want to buy the series, but you can watch them for free on the above link.

They show the series on normal PBS stations from time to time. Up until very recently, in the Washington DC area it was being shown every afternoon on channel 32. I think they also show it on PBSU, which is part of cable/satellite family packages (something like $12/month).

Another very good source, which I find amazingly few people really take advantage of, is the public library. Our public library system (Loudoun County, VA) has Destinos in both VHS and DVD versions. I'd ask around your local area, and not just the county you live in: you may be able to borrow from nearby counties also. I have learned Spanish on my own almost entirely from materials (including Destinos) that I checked out of public libraries.

LOL, when I was younger I actually liked this show, and it is really hard to find it on tv now, but if you live in Chicago, you can see it on the pbs channel, their WYCC-TV20 channel at around 11, because I've caught it twice at that time. Go to this website, and you'll find the show listings: www.pbsyou.org
I mostly like looking at all the places Raquel travels to, its what attracted my interest, and I remember having seen the lady in Mexican soap operas too.

Aaahh, my Precioussssssss

you can watch all the episodes for free online at
http://www.learner.org/resources/series75.html?pop=yes&vodid=349351&pid=395#

you have to register, but its worth it, they have all the episodes!

reply

psh, you can go to a mexican mcdonalds and find more drama.

Check E-bay. They usually have someone selling the set.

reply

True, but don't fall for the auctions that say they will give you access to the show online for a small fee like $5 or $10. All they do is sign you up at learner.org and send you the login, which you can easily do yourself.

reply

That's an excellent link for all of the free episodes. Thanks so much.

If ya stand for nothing, ya fall for anything

reply

You can have my Spanish teacher's copies. Then I wouldn't have to watch it anymore.

reply

me too.
mainly because of all the unintentional comedy.

reply

you have absolutely no taste and no life you poor, poor soul.

This is probably the worst thing I have ever seen in my life, pretty much everyone dies, and Raquel and Arturo hit it off while they should be doing something. Their relationship also doesnt go anywhere, it took em like, 3 episodes before they even kissed on the lips. I hope they dont want kids, cuz it would take about 20,000 episodes.

She does have some nice legs though, and firm shoulder.

So far, everyone here likes Destinos except you. I think this show has an excellent plot, and best of all it really helps your Spanish comprehension, especially listening comprehension.

It's too bad they don't show this series on TV more often or on more channels, but at least we can watch it on the Annenberg/Learner site.

reply

the fact that anyone could watch this for enjoyment is sad

reply

Almost as sad as someone who spends his time here posting how much he dislikes the show! What's the point?

Selected episodes are at http://mcl.gmu.edu/spanish/Destinos.html (redirects to
http://media.mesa.gmu.edu/mcl) I suppose at other universities as well.

This site is helpful if learner.org goes down or is unavailable for some other reason. I'm disappointed the videos aren't downloadable. I think most people who hate this series hate it because of the high-school Spanish course they are taking. Remember it beats trying to learn by textbook alone!

reply

I saw two in a row today on PBS! Destinos is fun lol. Never lets me down.

reply

Thanks for the link. I've got the books and the tapes but lost the videos. Just watched the first episode. Worked great. Thanks also to those who made the negative comments for giving me a good laugh. I think you have got to want to do the course. It distracts you from the corniness.
