It was chilling to see Milo's friends betray him so quickly.

I know the "group" (everyone except for Rourke) didn't like Milo at first and bullied him, but they did eventually warm up to Milo and seemed to take a liking to him.

So to see these quirky side characters suddenly turn on Milo and just ruthlessly take orders from Rourke without a second thought (at least until Milo talked them out of it) was chilling. It was pretty unexpected to see them obeying Rourke like a bunch of robots. I know they had a job to do, but damn...that escalated pretty fast.

And just as quickly as they betrayed Milo without a second thought, Milo was able to talk them out of it just as fast. It felt kind of jarring.

That does tie in with a common complaint that I have heard about the movie, and it's perfectly legit, is that the movie is too short. It really could had benefited from being an extra 15, 20 minutes longer.
