I wanted the girl dead

Right from the beginning that girl was an annoying brat, I see why she needed a tree stump to be her only friend. I cant believe she would help all those people die. I understand why the mom would since she was a little insane and Otik was her baby (it was her obsession that gave him life) but that girl just wanted someone to boss around. I kept hoping Otik would get hungry and eat her.

Right, I thought that kid was pretty evil. I can't see why many viewers liked her. Remember the scene where she was deciding who to feed to Otik? Her parents were among the people! She was willing to feed her mom or dad to that thing!
In my opinion, Alzbetka was the true villain. Her parents seemed just like concerned parents to me, nothing more. Otik was just following his instincts. Bozena was just desperate for a baby. Karel (Otik's "father") tried to do things with good intentions. The old lady was concerned with what was going on in the neighborhood, and in the end, she just got pissed off because her livelihood was disrupted.

Practically all the adults in this story seemed to posses an innate stupidity that prevented them from using their logic, but sure, it was the child who knew the truth. Very Roald Dahl I thought, that bit of the plot.

I too though the girl was very irritating, especially towards the end when she consciously decided to feed people to Otik. Especially heinous since she was the most aware of all the people in the story of Otik's insatiable hunger and homicidal tendencies. Call me misogynistic if you want, but even if she were a boy I'd still have wanted her to be given a good smacking.

Although the rather graphic visual imagery of the bones and blood wasn't quite suitable for kids, I thought it was unrealistic enough to not seem intentionally gorey. Seemed more like they were thrown in to make the fim slightly weird and disturbing. I was slightly disappointed that we didn't actually get to see the old lady split Otik open. Wonder what would've really spilt out......

The quote from the fairy tale as it is being spoken in the very end says that everyone and everything Otik had eaten "hopped out". That alomost leaves me to believe that it was a happy ending after all in a very twisted sort of way. Maybe since the girl had read the whole story, she knew that once Otik cut open, everyone would be alive again. Perhaps that is why she didn't mind feeding her own parents to it. She wanted to keep him alive as long as possible because it was her only friend and didn't see anything wrong with it because in the end it would all be ok. That's messed up! This movie reminded me of a much creepier version of "Little Shop of Horrors".

It reminded me of both Braindead and Eraserhead. Great film, therefore.

Anybody else notice that when she was drawing matches for who she was going to feed to Otik, there was no match for her? What a bitch.

I didn't get why for the first half of the film she was the perceptive and arguably the ONLY sane one, then that gets thrown out for the second half, when she completely loses persepective and begins feeding people to the monster. That was also about the time the film switched from the father to her as the main character, effectively derailing itself, as well as the the point where it the pace slowed to a crawl.

A great movie up until that point. Still very creative and surprising, despite weaknesses. Eraserhead the comedy.

But yeah. Screw that kid.

I want to slap on her face.

I really like this interpretation of her role. It does seem like she knew something the others didn't. With this knowledge she did what she wanted.
However, I disagree with some of the earlier posters when they say that she was the most sympathetic and moral character.

I personally think she is the polar opposite of this, i.e: selfish and amoral. She didn't keep Otik alive out of the goodness of her own heart, but for her own reasons.

She sort of even admits this herself when she says "I want someone all to myself, i'm very possesive" near the start of the film.

I think you're on to something there. Interesting interpretation.

The girl looked awfully hideous & chubby. Could they have chosen an uglier child to play this role?

She reminded me of those cabbage dolls

She annoyed me too, no wonder her kept on hitting her

it was just a little girl... I was really sick of her and really wanted her to get out of the way... but raped by an old guy or eaten by a tree seems a bit harsh. Such hate towards a character in a movie is interesting. Maybe she just enjoyed having a big ferocious monster as her friend? I know plenty of kids that would.

so did I, what an annoying little bitch!

She has a very punchable face. Annoying as hell.

YES!!! I HATED her!!! She had to be the ugliest child I've ever seen! And don't give me that, "That's mean, she's a little girl," crap. If a million people can hate Justin Bieber with a passion and want him dead, what's so wrong with me and others not liking her?

I also HATED the match part and how her parents were in it! WTF? She had no ties to the creature what so ever and in the end just wanted to play mother. I really wished Otik would've eaten her as well...

Wasn't the little girl in the story eaten? Why not her?

UGH! I know! Why aren't there more attractive children in movies? I mean...what's wrong with the world? HAS EVERYONE GONE INSANE? CHILDREN ARE TO BE SEEN AND THEY BETTER BE GOOD LOOKING.

I HATE MOVIES!!!!

reply

the girl deserved to be eaten more than anyone.
It would have been a better ending if she got eaten in the end.
