Is this movie serious or funny?

Hi,

From the trailer it looks like a comedy but wondering if it's a dark movie like the Krays which is also a good gangster movie. Don't know much about this guy but from what i've seen he looks pretty mean, so would hope this film is kinda dark. :)

Cheers.

Yes.

It's both. Chopper is a combination of philosopher, comedian and unstable psychopath. It's a very dark film as far as the humour goes. There is a scene where he is extorting money from an amphetamine dealer which is, in my opinion, a masterpiece of dark comedy. Also- if you get the DVD- make sure to watch this film with Read's commentary on. He's a very funny bloke.

Chopper was doing a comedy act on the NSW club circuit for a while. He has kept out of trouble this century.

I think the scene at the end of the film with him sitting in a prison cell, alone, staring off into nowhere, said a lot. A man I knew who spent time behind bars described it as "time wasted." Maybe Read took a long time to grow up.

Chopper is just one of those unique movies that is a real mix of elements, gangster drama, black comedy and loosely a Bio pic although as Chopper himself would say 'never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn'.

Either way it probably one of my favourite movies of the decade and well worth anyone hard earned cash for the DVD.

"Its just a ride"

a few laughs and he's a character... but mostly serious...

A little bit of both. But I wouldn't exactly say it's "funny". More like dark humor.
