Perfect boredom...

...reminds me of ancient Soviet elegy movies when almost half of scenes were treetops or single leaf from all possible angles. In spite of excellent acting and scenes, like documentary, stroboscopic and fragmented dialogs make this movie hard to watch. Everything is so ordinary and depressing; Bibiane appears authentic as she is followed by live cam. Marie-Josée Croze portrays her character brilliantly, genuinely annoying me, as I honestly can't stand so confusing and lost women. This is sort of French noir movie that I never liked. Perfectly done, but who is accustomed to dynamic Anglo-American movies will need firm will to watch it till the end. This kind of authenticity is what I am often missing in some other movies.

If you are bored by this film it is not because it is boring, but simply because you do not understand what is happening.

The film has a unique and compelling plot, which is delivered masterfully by the director and cast.

Or you might just be a pretentious, condescending windbag that falsely equates comprehension with enjoyment. I mean, I just said it, so it must be true.

Nice, a barrage of personal insults that have nothing to do with the film.

Maelstrom is not a minimalist noir film, a lot of things happen. Did you find the Octopus tough? Do you think you'd have sent the Octopus back? Have you seen many films make that same transition of viewpoints when the film begins to follow the story of the Frogman following him finding out about his father's death?

Are you here to discuss film? Your comment says it was perfect boredom, but ignores all the interesting things that happen in the film. My comment that you didn't understand the film was suggested because nothing you said showed any understanding of the film.

The first half of the film is a bit of a slog but it does become much more compelling after about 45 minutes and it’s not very long overall so I do recommend sticking with it.
