Creepy Susie and 13 other tragic tales
Has anyone ever read the graphic novel this show was "based on"? It was 14 short stories illustrated and written by Angus Oblong. It really is nothing like the show--- every story is a morbid, depressing little venture into the minds of troubled children, most with alcoholic or abusive parents. It was written in the style of "Adams Family"; full of macabre humor. Helga, Milo, Creepy Susie, The Debbies and I think a couple of others from the show are in the novel, but that's it. Some things from the book found themselves in the show-- remember the episode where Helga tries to fit in with the debbies? That's in this-- except she kills them at the end of it. Pretty disturbing. In fact, most of the stories end with the troubled youth KILLING their oppressors--and usually in a grotesque way. For instance, Helga chops up the Debbies with a pair of scissors.
It's bizarre, somewhat humurous and rather depressing....worth a look.
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember....that is the illusion.
