Not a Piama fan?

Personally I couldn't stand her character. her first episode she was undeservedly obnoxious and smug,
Plus I never perceived any real connection between her and Francis.
She wasn't a valid or likeable additional character to the show, I don't know why she was chosen or used for so long.

I didn't mind her, but she did change a lot. When we first meet Piama, she's very sarcastic, temperamental, and a little mean, but strong. She becomes a lot more 'down to earth' during the latter half of the series.

I think she's a lot like Lois in some ways. Kind of rough around the edges. Came from kind of a rough background. I didn't like her at first, but I think she came into her own as a character later on. She's pretty much perfect for Francis. They do each other a lot of good.

Didn't mind her, I'm rewatching the series now, I'll have to see what I think of her. I really didn't like Francis in general after he left military school, or any part of his storyline, but piama herself didn't stick out but maybe that was only because I didn't like anything else either.

the joke was that she was pretty much like Lois and it worked great at first, but it probably would've been boring after a while, so they toned her down a lot. i always liked her, it kinda made sense that Francis would go for a woman similar to his mother ;) and i loved that Lois hated her.
both Francis and her got boring after they left Otto's, didn't make any sense how they left etc., but it's obviously not Piama's fault

Well, Francis stopped appearing regularly after season 5 (and Piama) less so. Francis only appeared in a handful of episodes in season 5 and season 6 and Piama wasn't featured in every episode Francis was in.

I didn't mind her, but Lois was a complete bitch to her.

I loved her! She was wonderful and gorgeous as well :)

Emy Coligado is a horrible actress with a grating voice, and Piama is an insufferable addition to the show. While, initially, she serves as Lois' rival, Piama is a weak character who poses no competition. Even in scenes where she's supposed to one-up Lois, Emy's Piama never does because she has no screen presence, no substance. While Jane Kaczmarek/Lois dominates every scene.

Additionally, the OP was absolutely spot on about lack of connection between Piama and Francis which appears to be down to the lack of chemistry between the two actors. If they were adamant about giving Francis a love interest, they should have at least cast a better looking actress.
