What was the significance of the window scene (possible spoiler)

Towards the end of the movie, Vera tried to open the window but it was jammed. What do you guys think it was that all about?

That scene was a great finale to a great movie. This whole movie consists only of this apartment - it's the capitalist world we're in here, and you use others' as long as they give you something (profit), then throw it/them away. Everyone's lured into this world by quick satisfaction, new sexual adventures, illusions of finding love and passion and yourself - yet you get abused when you have no "worth" anymore (don't sell).

Basically, whether Vera wants to kill herself, get some fresh air, or just look at an outside world, it's not possible - since this IS the world the play portrays. Notice that the outside is all black - there is nothing outside this, this is the world order that is present and none of the characters can run from it or get fresh air - only by killing themselves.

I find tsgboom and clare f's interpretations to both be valid.

I feel that Vera was trying to escape her misery. Whether or not she wanted to escape in the way that Franz did (suicide), or just escape in general I'm not quite sure. Either way, she seems to be stuck in her situation.

In the production notes it says that the set designer wasn't asked to make the windows so they could open.
