DVD

Know this is a bit of a long shot, seeing as nobody has posted on here before, but I really wish they would bring this out on DVD, anyone else out there agree ?

I agree - I managed to tape some of the episodes when they were first shown (back in 1994 - my god, I was only thirteen, then!)

It is a shame that it has not been repeated or indeed a DVD is not available. It is a fantastic, thought-provoking piece of drama and best of all, it's scottish!

I think we should get a petition going and send it to BBC Scotland. They have to release it sometime, surely!

I agree with everyone. (And I'm from the U.S.!) I caught it when I was on vacation in England in 1996. Off and on I look to see if it has been made available on DVD. No such luck. It needs to be done in both PAL and whatever the format is used in the U.S. Excellent program.

I'm in Canada, and I'd buy this series in a heartbeat if it was available on DVD.
It is so good.

I agree wholeheartedly! I saw it on a Canadian station(Showcase) in about 2000, it was shown as a miniseries. I saw Takin Over the Asylum with my stepfather, and would love to get him the DVD for a surprise Christmas present, but I guess it won't be available soon enough. I think it is one of the best series I've ever seen. We are loonies and we are proud!
Incidentally, I was looking the show up and found out on another site that Campbell, (pardon me, I can't remember the actor's name at this late hour, but I remember his phrenetic energy) is going to be the next Doctor Who!
Please, please release the show on DVD! Don't leave us hanging!

reply

Campbell is David Tennant. From what I hear, people have been trying to get it released for years, to no avail. I've seen almost two episodes because my mum's boyfriend taped a couple when they first came out (I was seven at the time!), but it's utterly infuriating that I can't get hold of the rest of it! I guess we'll all just have to keep trying, hey?
Actually, now that I think about it, how would we go about setting up a petition online, because that might be something it's worth looking into? I've searched for one and can't find one, so...

The whole series was wonderful - the cast was brilliant and it brought Ken Stott to my attention - one of Scotland's finest. I would LOVE to have this on DVD or even VHS.

reply

I'm sure we can thank David's casting as the tenth Doctor for getting the series released on DVD in 2008. Amazing to be able to watch it now and just marvel at this gem.

reply

It has to be released on DVD or something! I have to see again, even just to confirm how good i think it is!!

reply

I'd love to see this amazing series again, and would happily buy a DVD in order to do so - were one available! It's (ahem) insane of BBC Scotland not to release this, especially with the interest in David Tennant Dr Who is bound to produce. It would have to be a profitable release, surely, and so much better than a lot of the pap that actually does make it onto DVD.

Everyone tells me that I have my grandmother's hands. So what?
Grandma's dead, it's not like she needed them anymore.

What amazes me is that it's still being talked about all these years later!

Also, someone said they saw it when they were seven, and another thirteen. I saw it when I was nine. Having watched the first episode again tonight, I'm amazed at it's popularity with younger viewers, as it is so tragic and dark. I remember being hooked, and my disappointment when the last episode coincided with a family holiday.

12 years later, and I'm downloading it. One day soon, I'll see that final episode, and be able to move on with my life.

EDIT: Watching the credits, I was amazed to see that Ashley Jensen (Extras) was in it!

I was 11 when I first saw it and 12 years on I'm still obsessed with David Tennant!! Apparently the BBC can't release it due to copyright issues with the Beatles songs on the soundtrack - they'd need to re-track the entire series if it was to be released. Not being funny like, but surely the BBC can afford to pay for them to be used! The DVD would rake in the cash!

reply

Joeynumbers, where did you download it from please, I really wanna see this!

If you still want a copy, UKNova.com is taking open subscriptions right now. Best torrent site to go to - they only do Brit series not yet on DVD.

Simply one of the best TV series ever - essential viewing. Get the DVD sorted BBC!!!

For anyone wanting a copy of Takin' over the Asylum post it on the Want It Now section on ebay as that's where I bought my copy a few weeks ago. It was taped off of the telly and then copied onto dvd but it's still pretty good quality and the series itself is even better than I remember!

reply

indeed tis is exactly where i found it - there is another copy available on there too, right NOW. go get it.

mine came in the post this morning - i'm sooooo haaaapy
i would still shell out for a proper dvd version if the BBC can sort out their copyright issues though... ~sigh~

I've taped all the episodes on video from TV. I will try and record it onto DVD. This is one of the most sensational TV programs ever made. It's in my top 3 (also love The Lakes, Singing Detective, I Claudius).

Hi everyone I have it on DVD if anyone wants it. x Just email me x [email protected]

I would dearly love a copy of it please. It is one of my favourite series and I don't know why I didn't video it myself at the time. My ex probably taped over it.

Please let me have further details.

Am happy to do a swop with things I do have eg Tutti Frutti
