Am I the only one who feels sorry for Imhotep??

I kinda think that this is all Anak-su-nahmun's fault.

Imhotep didn't start out as a bad guy or evil - he was just a man in love. The curse the Majai put on him made him the undead, evil mummy he became; and ultimately, everything he did was for the love of Anak-su-nahmun.

She ultimately betrayed him, so I have to feel a little bit sorry for him.

reply

I do not feel sorry for him because:

1. He betrayed his Pharoah
2. He murdered in cold blood
3. He was selfish (he asked Anacksunamun to save him, which means he had no qualms about her risking her life yet again; Rick did not want Evie to risk her life to save him.
4. Their love was not pure. It was selfish and their behavior made it clear they were ruthless and hungry for power.
5. They could have gone on to be happy together if that was what they truly wanted.
6. They were greedy, selfish, and heartless. In the end, he realized what true love was but it was too late.

reply

No. I felt sorry for ancksunamum. She beg him to leave. He was arrogant and drag her to death.

reply

You are supposed to feel sorry for him--but I agree that she did beg him to leave. Her refusal to help seemed contrived though.

A man "in love" that wanted power and was loyal to noone...I don't feel sorry for him, he wasn't sorry not even when he looked up to Nefertiri/Evie & Rick. IDK I feel like Imhotep was different in TMR... his goals weren't the same, he didn't seem concerned or happy(for Anck-su-namum coming back), just hungry for power ever since he rose. I never thought what they had was love, ever, so it didn't surprise me.

I felt sorry for Anck-Su-Namun for having such a guy. I was hoping that the kid would save Anck-Su-Namun and they all escape together in the balloon. After all, Anck-Su-Namun fell in love with the selfish guy.

reply

Anck-su-namum wasn't in love with Imhotep, like they said above he was her escape and rise of power, nothing else, they were both very selfish people and I'm glad Evelyn kicked her ass at the end too. She deserved it!

reply

I felt sorry for him too :(

reply

No, I feel bad for him too. When you watch Anak-su-nahmun run out on Imhotep, you realize she only cares about herself. And Imhotep looks sincerely heartbroken. And seeing her get eaten by the scarabs seems like the best comeuppance.

Brother Maynard, bring forth the holy hand grenade!

reply

Despite it all, yeah, I do feel kinda bad for him.

But as another poster listed, Imhotep and Anak-su-nahmun feel like different characters in "Returns".

reply

I felt bad for him too.

I don't feel bad for Anck-su-namun. She only saw Imhotep as a means of escape. I know she didn't have much choice as a woman during those times, but a coupling like Imohtep and Anck-su-namun is the oldest story in the book. And nobody ever wins in a situation like that. If it hadn't been Imhotep, it would been someone else.

reply

Yes! He goes through all that trouble of resurrecting her and then she leaves him to die. That's messed up.

reply

lol, hi, im ugly, and a loser
