Why would a parent let their child be in this movie?

If I were to have a daughter and she brought the script to me, then the next day asked if she could be in it I'd be like "Hell no!"

"If you don't stand up for something, you'll fall for anything."

reply

Money.

reply

All the main cast were at least 18 I believe. But if you mean the children with small parts in the movie like the jump rope girls, then I dunno. Money has got to be the predominant factor.

reply

Yep, they probably didn't even read the script. They just offer the parents $70,000 to let their kid be in a movie and they just say, "cut me a check." My only hope is that Larry Clark prevented the underage kids from knowing anything else about the movie. Probably just made them think it was a drama or something.

reply

Agreed, still with the sexual content in it you figured they'd have more sense then that as and up and comer these are the types of movies that can come back to haunt you later

reply

hahahaha $70,000????? It's an indie film. Jump rope girls didn't make anything close to that.

reply

$70,000 ?! Lol
Wow there's no way they would be paid that much.

SAG rates are like $880. for a day performer (which those small speaking role kids prob were)
That's it. Even if it were a part that required them to be there longer, SAG scale for a weekly performer is around $3,053

reply

But if you had a son and he brought the script home you would let him be in the movie because he's not a girl?

reply

Nope, I just chose a random gender as an example. I would had also told, if I had a son "Hell no!" then tell him to go to his room.

reply

Ever seen Bruno? The baby casting segment says it all.

reply

Yeah, sadly many parents live their lives of success through their children. Justin Bieber is all I have to say.

reply

I'm the furthest from a JB fan. Trust me, I hate his music.
But saying he is an example of his parent living through him - you couldn't be more wrong.
He was just a 12 year old kid, like a thousand other kids who posted videos of himself on YouTube singing and playing instruments. Then those vids were seen by the right people (Justin Timberlake & Usher) and then he was given a recording contract. Within a year he was the biggest star on the planet. I don't see how his mom had anything to do with any of what happened.

i'm not sure but i'm pretty sure the kids in bully are lary clark's son and friends(?) so maybe this is the same...

nice marmot.

reply

So what? If a friend were to ask me if I would like my child to be in his new sexual exploitative film I would without skipping a beat say "Are you out of your mind?"

reply

well, put it this way, are you friends with larry clarke?

nice marmot.

reply

That was just the example I gave. You need to listen.

reply

seriously? you need to think about what you are typing, dickhead.
how was what i said wrong?

nice marmot.

reply

Because I just gave the example that you wanted.

reply

okay, i have obviously missed your point.
all i am saying is, people tend to hang out with their own type, so larry clarke, who is a deviant/artist probably hangs out with the kind of people that would say, 'yes, of course you can use hannah in your film, she is an aspiring artist.'

nice marmot.

reply

Then honestly those parents need to get their head screwed on more tightly. Where has responsible parenting gone?

reply

it goes way beyond this movie. the whole world is full of people like that. do you live in a bubble?

nice marmot.

reply

i'm drunk with no plans waiting for tomorrow, what's your excuse for messaging back two minutes later?

nice marmot.

reply

Supposedly all the actors were at least 18. What's interesting if the age of consent was lower would people still be saying "It's totally fine." What if the age of consent was 16? Maybe 15? It just goes to show the decadence of morality in the modern world.

reply

Actually you can check quite easily by going to their imdb pages that they were of age at the time of filming. But the age of consent is not 16 or 15, also what is the best age for sex in your eyes. Also it is sex, it is not a big deal, maybe in prudish America it is.

LOL can you please *beep* off and realize that unsimluated sex between minors isn't something that people would want to see (ever hear of child pornography?) and it has nothing to do with "hurrdurr PRUDE 'MURICANS"

reply

I thought about that momentarily, especially in the scene where the kid has dinner with his girlfriend and the family (after he's had a very explicit sex scene with the mother), and the girlfriend has a 6 year old sister sitting next to her.

The best rationale I could come up with was that Larry Clark and co probably did what Stanley Kubrick and co did with Danny in The Shining; they didn't tell him what the movie was really about, and it wasn't until years after, when he was a grown teen, that he learned of the true nature, and that The Shining was a horror film.

If you think about it, the kid was just sitting at a table and eating dinner with a pretend family. I'm more curious as to how they got the elderly couple to be in this movie.

reply

The performers in this film were all above the age of 18.
