I know there was a scene where Max asked Liz if her and Kyle actually slept together, almost like Max already knew the answer. But was it ever discussed later on that it was because Future Max asked her to try and push Max and Tess together?

I didn't think she told him. I guess the scene where Max has that flash in Vegas of him and Liz getting married, we should just assume he figured it out then. It's easier than being frustrated that they didn't have a scene where Liz told him haha.
Interesting to hear that "The Departure" was originally supposed to be 2 hours. I'm not surprised that The WB didn't go for it.
