Easy, Engineering Disasters 5 - Lake Peigneur Disaster

I can now sleep soundly at night. I saw this episode when it first aired in December 2003, and thought it was the most amazing thing ever, but I forgot the name of the lake and have been searching for the last 4 years to see it again.. and I FOUND IT TONIGHT!!!

I can't think of a more preventable disaster than these two "man-made" industrial activities. To have an oil rig drill into a salt mine shaft really seems like bad luck. But then to have a "150 foot oil rig dissappear into what was originally a 10 foot deep lake" must have been scary as hell to have witnessed as the lake whirlpooled to drain into the mine shaft.

I know that not all of them are up to the same standards, but it's still a worthwhile show. What are your favorite episodes?

I don't have just one favorite. Some favorites include New York City Bridges, 60s Tech and 70s Tech. But I watch the show a lot.

I like the episode called "Mad Electricity" about Nicola Tesla. For some reason, I also like the episode about chili peppers and hot foods and products called "Hot And Spicy".

I loved the Mount Rushmore episode - its still on Netflix as of post date.

It's like 7 years later now, but I saw that lake disaster on a new show titled..

World's Strangest

It's in the episode 'places'

I never saw that episode of Modern Marvels, but now I want to.
That lake disaster is stuff of nightmares and sci-fi.
I can hardly believe that actually happened, but I'll be dog gone if it didn't!
