Was the cop undercover or was he a dirty cop

The one hired to kill oz, I never really got that part I find it hard to believe an FBI agent would risk life in prison for $12,000 which at the time this movie was made is less than £6,000. But if he was undercover there is no way the FBI would send him in without backup and in real life wouldn't they just arrested the wife as soon as she hired a killer.

No. He was setting her up. He taped the whole thing.

Normally they would pretend to kill the husband then bring her down to the station and see what her story is. YouTube some of the videos on this. It's quite interesting to see the wives shock at knowing they busted and seeing there not dead husband.

That was confusing as the cope was kinda innocent and was working to bring down wife by taping her. He wrote reports. So it was official police job. And then movie killed him for laughs.

It would be better if he was real killer. But it feels like writers had to punish somehow wife so they decided to go that route with cop taping her.
