and he give example the song What's Happening Brother.

Russel: "The more popular we get, the more I can't walk on them, the bigger their houses get, the more pressure... you forget, man. You forget what it was like to be real, to be a fan. You can hear it in a lot of bands who've been successful - it doesn't sound like music anymore. It sounds like... like lifestyle maintenance."

Is this the fate of any successful rock band?

I think this works for movies too. Once great directors now seem like they're no longer fans of film, but just do movies without challenging themselves.

With regards to music, more often than not the earlier albums of a band are better. The creativity begins to diminish and they lost their touch. It's difficult for them to remember the passion they once had.
