Notes on the Bootleg Cut

I prefer and highly recommend the Bootleg Cut, but that is only because I fell in love with and truly adore the Theatrical Cut.
I first learned of the Bootleg Cut (AKA “Untitled”) on one of the IMDB forums way back when, and was lucky enough to happen upon it one day, sifting through used DVD’s in Rasputin.
This film is a lovely fever dream which I encountered at the age of twelve, when it was showing on HBO (it probably had a hand in molding my taste in music, and feeding my naive dreams of rock-stardom, along with fleeting notions of journalistic aspirations). Eventually I did in fact become a musician and writer, and I receive a lovely jolt of inspiration every time I revisit this magical film.
The Bootleg Cut is basically a gourmet version of an already exceptional meal. Just little bits and added pieces here and there to enhance the experience, like unexpected sprinkles on a donut. There is a further development of characters, a more intricate symmetry... Songs from the first act are eloquently echoed in the third — Penny Lane leaving in the plane, Tiny Dancer when Russel visits William, “You (we) live in the same city”...
Anyway, highly recommended from this humble film fan, who has adopted ‘Honest & Unmerciful’ as a personal mantra.

Watched it again last night. You can't go back to the theatrical cut.
