Did John go blind?

The sleazy doctor tells John if he removes the bandages from his eyes before the timer goes off, he will go blind. When the spider robots come into the bath tub he remove the bandage and they scan his left eye. The rest of the movie never indicates whether or not this caused him to go blind in his left eye or am I missing something?
