Could I be the only HJ fan who's seen this?

OK all you X-Men, Van Helsing and even Swordfish and Kate & Leopold afficionados, have I got a movie for you!
You will have a hard time finding a copy of this one as it was made and distributed primarily in Australia. I got mine from eBay, and it was so worth the price! I think I paid about 10 bucks for a pre-viewed copy.
This is some of the best acting I've seen Hugh Jackman do yet.
It's a sweet story of two best friends who find out there's more to their relationship than either of them thought.
I recently reviewed the "kissing" moments in every Hugh Jackman film I own (all nine of them) and none of them compare to Paperback Hero. Maybe it's because the character is so "Australian" and maybe Jackman does better in his native tongue than in American or British accents, but he is just amazing in this. So believable, so funny, so romantic. I can't say enough about this film. It makes me really want to see another highly-acclaimed Australian film of his, The Erskinville Kings.

I'd love to hear from others who have seen this film. How does it stack up to Jackman's other work?

I have had it on video for donkey's years. I also had Oklahoma! when it was first released on video. I've got a habit for spotting a hottie before he hits it big, I was a George Clooney fan 10 years before the second show called ER that he was in when he was in a comedy called ER with Elliot Gould and I liked him in Roseanne.

Life isn't a rehearsal, so make this one your best performance

Amazon shows this only as a dvd that is incompatible with US systems. Is it coming out for US distribution?

Why isn't this movie available in the US?????? I was lucky enough to see it (and tape it) when it ran (once) on the WE channel about 5 years ago. I would love to replace my grainy video for a good DVD. I loved this movie and wish everyone could see how sexy and adorable Hugh is in this movie. And yes, Hugh's kisses (including the barely visible, but incredibily tender scene in the dark) were his best to date. I am hoping his new movie "Australia" in which he uses his own accent (and I am sure he will be incredibly sexy in) will have some passionate scenes.

I love this film - being from Australia - its pretty easy to get.

Man, you would think with his rising and rising popularity they'd have it to buy! Its like Johnny Depp - since his massive popularity boost from Pirates, you can now get early films like Arizona Dream - which i had been looking for, for years.
So if it isn't readily available now, i'm sure it will be soon. He's just too darn terrific and well loved NOT to be!

I love it when he's singing with CK in the bar! sweet!

Outside of Australia? Probably. I just checked availability on amazon.com and its still only in VHS. There are 3 used tapes for sale, starting at....$90!

What is this thing, gold plated? And here's what I really don't understand - every time an actor breaks through and becomes popular someone digs through that poor soul's catalog and repackages one or two of their worst ever movies, made on the cheap and usually back when the Big Name was not necessarily as adept as later on. These embarassments land at Blockbuster, Amazon, you name it, they're not hard to find. Case in point: Kevin Costner and Madelaine Stowe in a horrible potboiler called "Revenge".

But when you've got a Hugh Jackman with a couple titles to his credit back in Australia that have very good reviews indeed, they're impossible to buy anywhere else, at least in any normal way for any normal price. What's up with that? Hello, rights owners Down Under...want to make a little quick cash? I know a huge market in a place called North America, far, far away...

I got my copy of the DVD from eBay sometime in late 2005 or early 2006, I think. I think I paid about $15 plus shipping and the DVD works in my very American player. Just look for DVD's for Region 1. They were fairly plentiful when I got mine.
