Sadako vs Samara

Who do you think is creepier?

I'm going with Sadako and I'm not just going for her because I hate the American remake.

I'm going for her because Sadako has this creepy presence around her. The way she just climbs out of well and out of TV is just so damn scary. When she came out of the TV I was backing away from my OWN TV! lol true story. Sadako doesn't have to do much to scare the crap out of you!

Samara? Well she's just a little girl and there's nothing scary about a little girl with long hair is there?

I have to admit, when I was watching the US version and they showed the famous television scene, i found that pretty scary. But i thought that was the only scary bit in the US version. I thought the rest of it was plain crap.

Well, i think the problem there is they showed too much of Samara. You never get to really see Sadako as "just a little girl".

I'd prolly rather watch the American one if I wanted to watch a more entertaining movie that moves faster, but Ringu has way better mythology, and Sadako is definitely creepier. If you compare ONLY Ringu and The Ring (disregarding all sequels), Sadako is undeniably more terrifying. With Samara, they try to sort of flesh her out, give her a face, but by making her a little girl they make her more vulnerable-seeming. With Sadako, you never see her face, never hear her speak, never get one little bit of insight into her personality (again, sequels aside). In Ringu, she's just this long-haired specter that comes to claim her victims when the week is up. And you really only see her in her whole evil glory once, at the end. Because you know so little about her, she is so much scarier. For all you know, she could have a horribly deformed face, or a pretty face, anything really. Samara was kinda over-the-top, with the water, the rotting skin, the TV-static-ness. Don't get me wrong, The Ring is still a very good movie, but Ringu has that otherworldy and ominous nature, which makes it creepier.

All of this, of course, is only in my opinion.

The heart has its reasons, which reason knows nothing of.

I think Sadako is a little bit scarier.

Here's a nice video with both, btw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdHRewSFSDY

Sadako is way way way creepier!
She acted creepier than Samara...
The timing and music were better in the Japanese version

Not convinced yet?

Sadako definitely. Her gait gives me nightmares. Also the fact that she looks so real and human gives a claustrophobic feeling when she crawls out of the TV screen. Sadako scares me even during a second watch.
Samara looks like a sureal video image that scares you the first time because of the shock factor. When they reveal her twisted scowling face, it kinda ruins the effect.

Both scared me pretty bad, but I have to say Samara. Not saying I'd want to run into Sadako either.

Whenever I see Samara come out of the well and the tv I feel like Im watching a kindergarten performance of Ringu.
So for me Sadako all the way.

I just don't GET why you think Sadako is so alienish. She just looks like a girl with white paint/foundation covered on her body and a cheap wig. Her movements are a bit smoother and humanly than Samaras. Her hair also magically came out of thin air the second she climbed out of the TV, while Samara's wet hair was dragged through the screen.
And her DRESS. Don't get me started on THAT. She has crawled right out of a well with water in it, and her dress is sparkly clean and dry, like it just came out of the tumble dryer!

Although I think when Sadako is walking towards the TV before she is walking out of it, she is scarier than Samara because her hair sort of splits in two.

What does it for me with Samara is that her face looks so ANGRY and evil (especially in the poster, look it up), and she actually looks like she comes right from the well, decayed and all, not from the makeup studio.
Just the face of Samara makes me dizzy. I can not look at the poster without getting light headed, haha.

I think both the movies are great! I cannot decide on which one is better because they are two different genres. Ringu is a psychological thriller, while the Ring is more of a horrormovie.

Definitely Sadako!

Samara is truly scary and terrifying. No one scares me like Samara. I've had nightmares where I woke up in sweat because of her.
